Senior Academic Appointment
The Australian National University through the College of Asia and the Pacific seeks to make a strategic appointment of a senior academic to provide both research and administrative leadership in an interdisciplinary research program in Canberra/ACT.

SALARY PACKAGE: $150,675 - $150,675 pa plus 17% superannuation

POSITION OVERVIEW: RegNet is a world-class interdisciplinary research group within the School of Regulation, Justice and Diplomacy. RegNet's main goal is to challenge and advance current understanding and approaches to questions of private, public, and NGO governance through regulatory frameworks that develop evidence-based theory, policy and practice. It is considered one of the world's leading centres in sociolegal studies. RegNet's current research projects cover areas as diverse as climate change, human rights, peacebuilding, rule of law, policing and security, and social inclusion, but we welcome new areas of research. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: A successful candidate for this position would be an internationally recognised scholar in his or her area, a successful applicant for competitive research grants, an experienced supervisor of graduate students and an outstanding academic leader. He/she would be expected to assume leadership responsibilities within RegNet as a professor and to succeed the current Director at an agreed time, for a five-year term.

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region.
RegNet scholars are committed to interdisciplinarity through investigating different sites of regulatory intervention, from areas as diverse as climate to human rights. A leading research cluster within the College of Asia and the Pacific, RegNet scholars are developing research projects around the themes of development, peace and security in this region. This position will provide both research and administrative leadership.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS: Position Dimensions and Relationships: The appointee will provide leadership at the professorial level to an interdisciplinary research unit based in the College of Asia and the Pacific. At an agreed time the appointee is expected to succeed the current Director for a five-year term. He or she will have a major mentoring role for students and early-career researchers and will engage in collaborations with local, national and international colleagues.
ROLE STATEMENT:
1. Undertake and publish nationally and internationally recognised academic research;
2. Leadership of RegNet as head of program and Director of the School of Regulation, Justice and Diplomacy, at an agreed time, for a term of 5 years;
3. Play an active role in the development of educational policy within the School;
4. Recruitment and supervision of doctoral students;
5. Actively seek and secure external funding including the preparation and submission of research proposals to external funding bodies;
6. Supervise less senior academic and research support staff where appropriate, as well as mentoring and career development of academic staff through the performance management process; and
7. Other duties as required consistent with the classification level of the position in a university context.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. A relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing together with subsequent research experience. Outstanding international reputation for excellence, demonstrated particularly through a distinguished publications record. Research interest in Asia and the Pacific.
2. An excellent, innovative research record in regulation or related field, evidenced by an outstanding record of publications, conference papers, reports and/or professional and/or technical contributions in the field.
3. Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a research group, and to recognise and develop new opportunities as they arise.
4. Proven ability to secure external funding and build collaborative research linkages.
5. Leadership and management, administrative and communication skills of a high order, appropriate to a University setting.
6. Commitment and proven ability to attract PhD candidates and deliver high quality PhD supervision. Ability to cooperate and maintain effective relations with colleagues, students and others.
7. A demonstrated high level understanding of equal opportunity principles and a commitment to the application of EO policies in a university context.
