Founded in 1911, The University of Hong Kong is committed

forefront of academic scholarship for many years. Of a
number of recent indicators of the University's
performance, one is its ranking at 18 among the top 200
universities in the world by the UK's Times Higher

As the University approaches its 100th anniversary, a major
human resource expansion plan has been launched to provide
200 new academic positions. The purpose of this Centenary
Recruitment Plan is to enhance our research competitiveness
and to facilitate the introduction and delivery of a new
four-year undergraduate curriculum from 2012.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/
Associate Professor/Assistant Professor on tenure track in
all fields within the Faculty of Business and Economics,
from July 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a
three-year fixed term, with other appointment lengths
possible. Exceptionally outstanding candidates could also
be considered for appointment on tenure terms (except for
the Assistant Professor level).
ABOUT THE FACULTY OF BUSINESS:
The Faculty of Business and Economics was created in 2001
and has two Schools - School of Business and School of
Economics and Finance, and seven research centres. Its 80
internationally diverse full-time faculty members form a
dynamic team of distinguished scholars and teachers who are
world experts in their fields and in the dynamic economies
of China and East Asia.
The mission of the Faculty of Business and Economics is to
provide Asia's premier international economic and
management education and research and to equip students
with the vision and skills to become leaders in Hong Kong,
Greater China and in the region and beyond. A full range
of bachelors, masters, doctoral, MBA and executive programs
are offered to give students and program participants
integrative East-West perspective and in-depth state-of-
the-art insights in management, economics, finance and
career success skills. The research environment is amply
supported, active and highly productive with output
published in premier international journals, top-level
access to policy makers and frequent seminar speakers and
visitors from overseas and the region. The alumni of The
University of Hong Kong constitute a "who's who" of the
region's leaders including twelve of the seventeen
ministers of the Hong Kong government.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in the relevant
fields ranging from accounting, economics, finance and
human resource management, to international business,
management information systems, marketing and strategy.
Appointees are expected to deliver quality teaching and
commit to high-quality scholarly research and services.
Candidates at the Professor level should have a proven
record of internationally recognized scholarship and
teaching. For professional areas such as accounting and
information systems, a professional qualification is
preferred.

SALARY/BENEFITS:
A highly competitive salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience will be offered reflecting
market rates. The appointments will attract a contract-end
gratuity and University contribution to a retirement
benefits scheme, totalling up to 15 percent of basic
salary, as well as leave, medical/dental benefits and
research funding benefits. Housing benefits will be
provided as applicable. At current rates, salaries tax does
not exceed 16 percent of gross income.
