     Wichita State University invites applications and
     nominations for the position of Dean of the W. Frank
     Barton School of Business. The dean reports to the Provost
     and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research and
     serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the Barton School.


     JOB DESCRIPTION:

     The dean is responsible for all fiscal, personnel, and
     curricular matters related to the operation of the School.
     The University seeks an experienced, energetic, innovative
     and visionary leader who can work with faculty, staff,
     students and the business community to develop and deploy a
     strategic plan of growth and innovation for the Barton
     School; work collaboratively with other deans to advance
     the WSU urban serving research mission; interact
     productively with the diverse Wichita business community;
     and develop resources through fund raising.


     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

     The successful candidate must have: (1) a distinguished
     record of success in the academy and/or in business, (2)
     significant administrative experience appropriate for
     academic leadership, (3) appreciation of and commitment to
     an urban serving research university and the special
     opportunity it provides for cultivating ties to the
     business community, (4) demonstrated success in securing
     external support, (5) commitment to excellence in teaching,
     research, and service, and (6) demonstrated success in
     working with diverse communities.

     The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State
     University is located in the largest city in Kansas with a
     growing metropolitan area of more than 500,000, a vibrant
     entrepreneurial economy, reasonable house prices, short

     The Barton School is building on its success as a
     nationally recognized source of entrepreneurial business
     leaders for the global marketplace. The School is AACSB-
     accredited in business and accounting and is composed of 56
     full-time and 22 part-time faculty, and 2,222 students in
     fall 2007. On a budget of $12.3 million and an endowment
     of $31.6 million, the Barton School is proud to offer more
     than $300,000 in yearly scholarships including the largest
     business academic scholarship in the state. Currently, 10
     business school faculty hold named chairs funded partially
     or fully by endowments including four distinguished
     professors (Omer Professor of Business and the W. Frank
     Barton Distinguished Chairs in Entrepreneurship, Business
     and International Business).  Ties between the Wichita
     business community and the Barton School are particularly
     strong, providing faculty and students with opportunities
     and resources that enhance teaching and learning, including
     an active cooperative education experience for students.
     The Barton School offers ten undergraduate majors (BBAs),
     as well as four graduate degrees including masters in
     business administration (MBA & EMBA), economics (MA) and
     accounting (MACC). There are six academic and outreach
     centersÐthe Center for Economic Development and Business
     Research, Center for Economic Education, Center for
     Entrepreneurship, Center for International Business
     Advancement and the Center for Management Development, and
     the Market Based Management Center with one of the finest
     experimental economics labs in the country. The Barton
     School's undergraduate entrepreneurship program ranks 11th
     by Entrepreneur Magazine, the MBA is listed among the best
     programs by The Princeton Review, and our MBA partnership
     with the Berlin School of Business has received national
