The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC is seeking candidates with U.S. Citizenship or permanent residence (green card) for visiting and full-time financial economist positions in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. Interested candidates must have a research and policy interest in one of the following areas: market microstructure, derivative securities, clearance and settlement, credit ratings, hedge funds, mutual funds, municipal securities, corporate governance, securities offerings, financial accounting and disclosure, econometrics, and litigation economics.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Financial economists at the Commission provide economic guidance and research expertise to a broad range of activities, including rule-making, enforcement actions, market oversight and monitoring, and other regulatory initiatives. Opportunities exist within the Division to focus on work in specific policy areas, risk assessment and modeling, and litigation support. In all roles, candidates must have the ability to apply academic research and empirical methods in support of Commission actions and regulatory programs, and are expected to engage in independent research directed at top-tier professional journals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Ph.D. in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related area and evidence of a strong research background or potential.
- Visiting academic scholars must have and retain a permanent position at a U.S. college or university.
- Full-time (Economic Fellow) positions: must be a U.S. citizen or a person admitted for permanent residence (green card) and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B)).
- Positions are contingent upon candidates passing a background check.

TERMS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Visiting positions are one-year appointments. Visiting scholars continue receiving salary and benefits from their universities, which are reimbursed for the academic salary and benefits, commensurate with the visitor's qualifications on the Commission's SK pay scale. Compensation may include an allowance for moving expenses.
- Full-time (Economic Fellow) positions are two-year appointments that may be extended up to a maximum of four years in total, with opportunities for permanent employment status for U.S. Citizens after time in position. Economic Fellows are compensated based on their qualifications on the Commission's SK pay scale. There is no allowance for moving expenses for Economic Fellows.
