The Edward J. and Louise E. Mellen Chair in Finance

The John M. and Mary Jo Boler School of Business invites applications for the Edward J. and Louise E. Mellen Chair in Finance, a tenure track position beginning August 2014.

JOB DESCRIPTION: A Ph.D. in finance or closely related field, a desire for and demonstration of excellence in teaching, and strong research record in financial economics with a national reputation are required. A strong preference for teaching and research interest in corporate finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels is preferred, but candidates with teaching and research interests in other areas of finance are also welcome.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Chair may be filled at the associate or full professor level depending on the qualifications of the candidate. The teaching load for this position is four courses per academic year. Classes generally have fewer than thirty students. Candidates should possess a strong record of professional service and be willing to engage in departmental and university service appropriate to his/her rank. The Mellen Chair holder will take a significant role in bringing business leaders to campus and participate in the ongoing development of the Boler School's excellent relationship with the greater Cleveland business community.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: John Carroll University is a Catholic, Jesuit University with approximately 4,000 students. The Boler School of Business is AACSB accredited for both its undergraduate and graduate programs and has separate AACSB accreditation for its Accountancy program. The Boler School offers two graduate degree programs (MBA and MS in Accountancy), and eight undergraduate majors. The Department of Economics and Finance includes 10 full-time tenure-track faculty. The finance group currently includes three full-time, tenure track faculty, one full-time visiting professor, and a full-time executive-in-residence with substantial financial management experience.

ABOUT THE AREA: John Carroll's campus is in University Heights, Ohio, a residential suburb of Cleveland located 20 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes from scenic countryside. Cleveland hosts a variety of industries and has experienced significant growth in the areas of financial services, biotechnology, health care, and engineering. Metropolitan Cleveland offers a wealth of cultural amenities as well as wide ranging opportunities for outdoor recreation.
