Binghamton University, one of the four research universities in the State University of New York System, invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Dean of the College of Community and Public Affairs. ABOUT THE COLLEGE: Established in 2006, the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA) offers an undergraduate degree program in human development and graduate programs in public administration, social work, and student affairs administration, as well as a new doctorate in community and public affairs. The College enrolls 700 students and has 24 full-time faculty. CCPA is located in the University Downtown Center, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2007, allowing faculty and students to collaborate with community agencies and organizations. This prime location promotes integration of the College's activities within the community to energize and revitalize the region. A commitment to community engagement, social justice, diversity and interdisciplinary collaboration is woven into the fabric of the College's identity and intellectual work.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Dean of the College of Community and Public Affairs serves as the chief administrative and academic officer, and leads it in accordance with the University's mission and goals. Among the Dean's general responsibilities are to consult with faculty to develop curricula; provide leadership for assessing existing programs and developing new ones; administer the College's budget; recruit faculty; take a leading role in other faculty personnel matters, including tenure, promotion, and renewal; help the College realize its commitment to diversity; promote interdisciplinary research and teaching; represent the College to external constituencies; and lead College development activities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Successful applicants must have an academic record appropriate for appointment as a full professor with tenure, preferably in a department or program within CCPA. Additionally, successful candidates will have evidence of administrative leadership that demonstrates the following: innovative and effective leadership in higher education; a collegial administrative style that promotes a sense of academic respect and collaboration with faculty, staff and students; an ability to foster strong connections between internal and external constituencies; experience working within a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty in a complex university setting; familiarity with accreditation of professional degree programs; a commitment to community engagement, as well as engaged scholarship; and a strong commitment to diversity and success in enhancing it through the recruitment and retention of minority faculty and students. Candidates should have significant experience in reconciling differing opinions and developing solutions within a shared governance model. The successful applicant will articulate an ambitious vision for the College and will have demonstrated experience with strategic planning, extra-mural funding, assessment, instructional technology, and interdisciplinary approaches to education, as well as a commitment to private fundraising. Candidates should respect a variety of approaches to scholarship and student learning and demonstrate ability and commitment in strengthening an environment that fosters and supports interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and teaching.
