Research Associate
The GRI Research Strategy is focused on an ongoing program of high
quality research that is both applied and interdisciplinary in
nature. Research will take many different forms - original research,
modelling, case studies and surveys. It will involve disciplines as
diverse as finance, economics, econometrics, actuarial science, and
mathematics. Major research projects will be located both at selected
universities and in-house at GRI. The Global Risk Institute's
international forums will transmit the research findings and promote
international discussion of their effects on the financial services sector.
REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- The Research Associate will report to the Managing Director,
Research (the MD, Research)
- The Research Associate will work with the MD, Research and
colleagues in Research and Education.
- In the course of the Research Associate's assignments, there could
be the need to work and interact with stakeholders in academia,
financial institutions and policy-setting and regulatory authorities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties include research, policy
updates, data collection and analysis, and coordination with research
projects sponsored by GRI. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide research and analytical support in the risk management area
- Responsible for synthesizing research findings from key reports and
publications for sharing with a range of audiences through various
communication mediums
- Analyze data, interpret results, prepare recommendations and present reports
- Plan and execute quantitative data analysis to support scholar
research and prepare results to complement published material
Core Competencies and Qualifications:
- Exceptional communication, report writing, and collaboration skills
- Superior analytical skills, both quantitatively and from a policy
issues-oriented focus
- Ability to plan and implement research projects, in time and within
budget, under direction from the MD, Research
- Knowledge of sound research methodologies
- The ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
environment with minimum supervision
- Ability to seek out information from a variety of sources
- Ph. D., in Financial Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or a closely
related field required (newly graduated)
- Priority will be given to candidates who are legally entitled to
work in Canada
