Tenure Track Faculty Positions

The Department of Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business (University of Wisconsin, Madison) invites applications for faculty positions effective Fall 2014. We aim to hire one or more faculty at either the tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate/Full Professor rank.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking applicants with demonstrated research interest in areas with applications to risk management, insurance, actuarial science, judgment and decision making under risk and uncertainty, health economics or health care analytics all from a business perspective. Our primary goal is to hire new faculty whose research interests are a good fit with the department. Within that set, we are especially interested in applicants with research interests in the areas of health analytics. Qualified applicants are expected to hold a PhD in economics, risk management and insurance, actuarial science, statistics or related fields prior to the start of the academic appointment. New faculty will be expected to teach a normal load of courses in risk management, actuarial science, or business analytics each year and may teach courses across these areas, depending on the candidate's interests and background. The Wisconsin School of Business offers competitive salaries and research support.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance program at the University of Wisconsin Madison is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to the 1930s. We are proud to be ranked among the best of all programs in both actuarial science and risk management and insurance, both from a curricular and research perspective. We believe our department offers a unique perspective on the analysis of risk with particular research strengths in the areas of predictive modeling and behavioral issues with decision making under uncertainty. Our current faculty members focus their research efforts on empirical and analytic solutions to individual and corporate decision making problems that are routinely encountered in these areas. We are also proud to be part of a great university with excellent resources available to both faculty and students. The Wisconsin School of Business offers degrees in actuarial science and risk management and insurance at the undergraduate, master's in RMI, and PhD level. We also have a Capstone Certificate Program in Actuarial Science targeted to post undergraduate students. The School currently enrolls approximately 2000 undergraduates, 400 masters, and 80 PhD students.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications should include (a) cover letter, (b) full curriculum vitae, (c) a brief statement of current and future research interests, (d) at least one working paper, (e) evidence of excellence in teaching (e.g., teaching evaluations, letters), and (f) the names and contact information for three references.
