Senior Research Analyst

Burgiss is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to provide research support for PERC-governed academic-oriented research projects in the area of Private Equity. The individual will be an employee of Burgiss but also work closely with academic researchers from leading business schools to support their empirical research projects using data provided by Burgiss.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have a strong command of current econometric techniques as well as experience with database and statistical software such as STATA, SQL-Server, R, and SAS. Demonstrated prior experience with common financial databases such as CRSP and CompuStat as well as the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is also desirable. Familiarity with financial industry practice and research in financial economics (and private equity in particular) is highly desired.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary job responsibilities will include:
1. Providing database programming services (e.g., manipulating existing Burgiss resources to generate databases for academic research projects).
2. Authoring and executing statistical analysis programs (primarily in STATA) for research projects in conjunction with external academic investigators.
3. Managing work flow for multiple simultaneous projects. Regular and clear communication of progress reports to managers and academic researchers.
4. Construction of new data sources for financial research in the private investments space.
5. Tracking time spent on projects for internal accounting purposes.
6. Making and implementing suggestions to enhance research process and resources.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree or its equivalent in financial economics, economics/econometrics, applied statistics, or comparable field is required. A Ph.D. is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of statistical programming or applied econometrics is required (may include dissertation or thesis research). An ability to learn new programming languages as needed is necessary.

Members of the advisory board and research fellows will use data and resources available to the consortium through Burgiss to conduct research for publication in academic and practitioner journals. The consortium is engaged in projects documenting the universe of private equity funds and a fund identification/coding system for private investments that enables matching across different databases.
