Established in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University is a publicly-funded institution with the mission of providing quality higher education for the young people of Hong Kong and the region, combining broad-based liberal education with academic and professional rigour. The University has a student population of around 11,000 with a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (leading up to PhD level) offered under its six Faculties/Schools (Arts, Business, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Science and Social Sciences) and an Academy of Visual Arts. In addition, there is a School of Continuing Education which offers self-financed programmes leading to the award of certificates/diplomas and associate, undergraduate and higher degrees in collaboration with the University and overseas institutions.
The University is now looking for a distinguished, innovative and dynamic scholar to be the Dean of Business (PR320/12-13).
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS: Hong Kong Baptist University has long been one of Asia's pathfinders in whole-person business education. HKBU School of Business is among just 1% of business schools worldwide with triple accreditation from AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (Association of MBAs) (for MBA and MSc Business Management programmes). The mission of the School is to nurture visionary and ethical business leaders capable of meeting new challenges in a rapidly changing global economy. The School currently comprises five departments, three research centres and two business support units. The distinctive programmes offered by the School - BBA (Hons), BCom, MBA, MSc, DBA, MPhil and PhD - are intellectually rigorous and have contemporary and professional relevance. Fostering a vibrant research environment, faculty members of the School engage actively in academic as well as applied research with corporate advisory or public policy impact. The School has at present around 90 full-time academic/teaching staff and a student population of over 2,800, including 1,800 undergraduate and 1,000 postgraduate students.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Dean of the School of Business is expected to be a visionary leader and a distinguished scholar who will provide effective academic leadership to the School, inspire excellence, promote first-rate teaching and research, and establish strong links with external organizations and the industries. Reporting to the Vice-President (Academic), the appointee will also work closely with the other Deans of Faculties/Schools and the senior management in setting the overall direction and strategic development of the University. While the Deanship position will demand significant time commitment to administrative duties, it is expected that the appointee will hold a concurrent academic appointment in the School and thereby contributing to teaching, research, and other scholarly activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The desirable candidate should be a renowned scholar with a distinguished track record of performance in teaching, research and university administration. He/She should also have substantial professional experience relevant to the work of the School and preferably have held senior position in the business world. Visionary and innovative leadership, open-mindedness, excellent adaptability to changes and challenges, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build a strong team in support of the future development of the School are all essential. Good capability in fund-raising and resource management are added advantages. The successful candidate should preferably be proficient in English and Chinese.
APPOINTMENT TERMS: The appointee will hold a concurrent academic position at or above the Professor rank and be provided with a monthly responsibility allowance for the Deanship appointment. Remuneration package includes basic salary on the Professorial range, retirement/gratuity benefits currently at 15% of basic salary, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, housing assistance and relocation allowance wherever appropriate. Initial appointment will normally be made on a three-year term, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
