The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City invites applications for a Payment System Specialist.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Leverages industry expertise and experience to support senior payments staff and Bank management in influencing the direction of Federal Reserve System policy in the area of payments. Conducts research and analysis of payments methods, markets, and infrastructure and identifies relevant policy issues and implications. Communicates and interacts with various audiences including Bank senior management, System colleagues, industry groups, and others on payments systems issues relevant to the Federal Reserve.
- Identifies and analyzes emerging trends, risks, and/or critical issues that can influence the direction of, or impact the Bank's position on, System payments policy. Provides policy commentary, advice, and/or recommendations to senior management on a range of topics including payments products, payments systems, and markets and their impact on end users, intermediaries, industry, and the Federal Reserve.
- Independently conducts research and analysis of industry developments and payments systems issues relevant to the Federal Reserve. Formulates appropriate summaries, conclusions, recommendations, responses, etc.
- Prepares briefing materials for senior management on payments systems related subject matter.
- Writes articles for Bank publications such as the Economic Review, and Payments System Research Briefings based on independent research of complex topics covering a variety of emerging/traditional payments systems issues.
- Develops and maintains close relationships with, and serves as a key contact for, payments industry personnel, other Reserve Bank peers, and, potentially, other central bank staff.
- Develops and delivers presentations that are appropriate for both internal and external audiences including, but not limited to, senior management, System colleagues, and industry groups.
- Coordinates periodic roundtable discussions regarding emerging payments/payments systems research issues with internal stakeholders, including Bank research areas, senior management, other Bank departments/divisions, and System peers.
- Participates on conference calls, in District- and System-level workgroup meetings, and industry conferences to contribute and gain information and insight regarding emerging payments and payments systems topics. Determines and/or analyzes issues related to developments in payments systems that are most relevant to the District and/or System.
- Participates in, and represents department and Bank at, industry conferences/forums by giving speeches and/or presentations, participating in panel discussions, writing papers, etc.
- Helps conduct statistical analysis of transaction volume shifts and emerging payments trends for inclusion in presentations and materials for publication.
-Assists with the bi-annual Payments Conference through development of content/topics, identification of appropriate speakers and participants, communications and correspondence, and other coordination issues.
- Proactively monitors and evaluates payments systems issues and developments by frequently reviewing related web sites, periodicals, trade journals, Reserve Bank publications, etc. and keeps management informed of relevant information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or directly related work experience.
- A minimum of ten years of experience working in the financial services or payments industry.
- Expertise and significant knowledge of payments systems and financial services industry; including deep historical knowledge of, and/or experience with, traditional payments systems.
- Potential to publish research on issues relevant to the Federal Reserve in industry journals and various Bank publications.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to apply, interpret, and explain complex concepts.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, enabling effective delivery of knowledge to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate, and build strong relationships.
