The Kogod School of Business at American University (AU) in Washington, D.C. is seeking at least one faculty member for tenure-track, untenured appointment(s) in the Department of Finance and Real Estate in the area(s) of corporate finance, investments, and financial markets or institutions. The starting date is August 2013.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Motivated and well-trained researchers who also excel at teaching and will fit in with our active research group. Positions are at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, offering competitive salary and benefits. The positions are tenure-track but untenured.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL: The Kogod School of Business is an exciting, entrepreneurial institution with over 300 graduate and 700 undergraduate students and excellent international contacts. In addition to the traditional MBA and BSBA, the school offers BS or MS degrees in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting and Taxation. The Kogod School faculty enjoys substantial interaction with the financial, regulatory and consulting communities in the greater Washington, DC area.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Finance and Real Estate currently has 9 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 7 term faculty members. Department members publish in top finance journals, such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, as well as top-tier journals in economics and real estate. Current research includes projects in corporate finance and governance, financial intermediation, market microstructure, investments, and commodities. The group is collegial and works as a team to further individual research interests and teaching objectives. The Department has an active research seminar series, with papers presented by local, national and international researchers.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: At the time of application, candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Finance or in Economics (specializing in Financial Economics). Successful candidates must provide evidence of - and a commitment to continue producing - high-level research in financial economics. Furthermore, they must already have taught finance courses with full course responsibility, have obtained strong teaching evaluations, and demonstrate the ability to continue excelling in teaching finance.
