The Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applicants for (1) full-time, tenure track position with teaching and research focus in investments with special emphasis on derivatives. Second area of interest may be corporate finance or risk management. This position will be effective August 16, 2013. The position is open until filled.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL: We are housed in the new state of the art facility, Snead Hall. The School of Business is fully accredited by the AACSB. VCU's Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate offers high quality programs for the development and communication of knowledge in studies related to Finance, Real Estate, Risk Management and Insurance, Financial Planning, Financial Engineering and Actuarial Science. The department has approximately 35 full-time and part-time faculty members many of whom hold doctorates from reputed business schools. Departmental faculty have published in leading journals including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Financial Management, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics and Real Estate Economics. The department supports WRDS platform with widely used databases. The department is committed to the advancement of high quality research in line with the University's standing in the Carnegie classification - RU/VH. Our programs develop skills that result in highly sought after graduates. In fact, many national corporations have identified VCU's School of Business as a target school for recruitment.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Finance and evidence of high quality scholarly activity. Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. A record of published peer-reviewed journal articles in high quality publications is preferred.
Faculty member will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
