Professor and Associate Professor in Finance/Banking
THE OPPORTUNITY: The Department of Accounting and Finance is committed to the advancement of knowledge and preparation of future business leaders, accounting, banking and finance professionals and academics, through high quality research, teaching and learning, and service to the faculty, the University, our students, the community and our other stakeholders. The department is managed by a head of department supported by three discipline heads in the areas of Financial Accounting and Auditing, Management Accounting and Accounting Information Systems, and Finance/Banking.
The research areas in the finance/banking discipline include asset pricing, banking, corporate finance and funds management. The discipline has a vibrant research culture and an outstanding record of quality publications in international journals. It subscribes to all major international and national financial databases (including WRDS) and is a full member of SIRCA, a leading provider of financial data and research support to over 200 universities world-wide. Empirical research is strongly supported with a database manager and a full range of statistical analysis software. The finance/banking discipline has approximately 45 academic staff, undergraduate single and double degree course offerings, postgraduate courses, and highly regarded honours and higher research degree programs. The discipline is involved in a wide range of research activities and educational innovation and has excellent resources including a behavioural research laboratory and a simulated teaching and research laboratory.
The discipline is seeking to appoint outstanding PhD qualified academics in finance/banking to provide leadership in finance/banking education and research. This is an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified and enthusiastic academics to join a highly motivated team of teaching and research staff in the following roles:
PROFESSOR (LEVEL E): The successful candidate will provide leadership in the Department of Accounting and Finance by fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development. The appointee will work closely with other senior staff members to contribute to the department's research culture, especially in pursuing both traditional and more innovative sources of research funding. He/she will share, with other senior staff, responsibility for the development and maintenance of high research performance, the continued development of the HDR program, the mentoring of staff in the department as well as make a significant contribution to teaching in finance/banking.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (LEVEL D): The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high research productivity of an international standard through scholarly publication in finance/banking, and application for competitive research grants and other externally sourced research funds or consultancies. He/she will foster and promote research, provide leadership in the development of teaching quality and teaching initiatives, contribute to the ongoing development and design of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and supervise research students. It is also expected that the appointee will contribute to the department, discipline, faculty and University and play a significant role within his/her profession or discipline. Academics at this level may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS To be considered, applicants should have an outstanding research, education and service record. Appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful applicants' qualifications and experience and in accordance with classification standards for each level (refer to the relevant position description for further information).
