Faculty Position in Financial Econometrics

The Econometric Institute at Erasmus University Rotterdam invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Financial Econometrics. The position is a fixed-term full-time appointment for a period of three years, starting in September 2012 or a mutually agreed date.

JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have their PhD dissertation completed or be near completion. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. We are looking for candidates who have the potential to publish in the very top finance and econometrics journals. The teaching load (at the undergraduate, MSc, and/or PhD level) is moderate. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and includes several secondary benefits (such as a pension plan that is partially funded by the university). Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

ABOUT THE ECONOMETRIC INSTITUTE: The Econometric Institute has a strong research tradition in both theoretical and empirical econometrics. Focal areas of interest include applications of econometrics in finance, marketing and macroeconomics.

The Quantitative Finance group of the Econometric Institute is part of the Erasmus Finance Group, which also includes faculty from the Department of Finance at the Erasmus School of Economics and the Department of Financial Management at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). Erasmus Finance runs an active weekly seminar series with speakers from top international schools, a separate brown bag seminar, several annual conferences, and a visitor program with eminent finance scholars. Erasmus Finance is supported by the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) through extensive research support to its faculty. Research facilities offered by Erasmus Finance includes access to all major databases (WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Datastream, Bloomberg, I/B/E/S, Thomson One Banker, TAQ, CRSP Mutual Funds, etc.).

The Econometric Institute offers a full-time one-year Master of Quantitative Finance program, which serves a select group of 60 students with prior training in econometrics, statistics, economics and finance. Faculty members are also active in teaching in the undergraduate Econometrics program offered by the Econometric Institute, and in the MPhil and PhD training programs of the Tinbergen Institute and ERIM.

FURTHER INFORMATION: Rotterdam is a pleasant and lively harbor city with 600,000 inhabitants located in the west of the Netherlands which provides attractive living conditions, also for international faculty. The use of English in daily life poses no problem. Air, road, and railway connections with major European and U.S. cities are excellent. The standards of healthcare and education in the Netherlands are high, while the costs are low relative to Anglo-Saxon countries.
