The University of Auckland Business School is New Zealand's premier business school and is internationally recognised for the quality of its education and research. The Business School's major teaching activities are a large undergraduate program, a highly regarded MBA program, and research-based postgraduate honours, masters, and PhD programs. The Business School also has an extensive and expanding portfolio of executive programs.
The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the largest in the university, with more than 1,500 equivalent full-time students. The Department has a strong research orientation, with faculty publishing in highly rated international journals. There is a strong and growing postgraduate programme, with approximately 20 PhD students. The Department is made up of three areas of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Finance. It has about 40 full-time faculty comprising eight full professors, four associate professors, and a number of senior lecturers, lecturers, and tutors.
The Department has a strong research orientation, with faculty publishing in highly rated international journals. Some are on the editorial boards of international journals. The Department has a strong commitment to diversity and internationalisation, which is reflected in its faculty and student profiles, and a vibrant programme for visitors, including many well recognised international academics. Faculty members are involved in joint research projects with other School faculty and with faculty at other universities.
The Department seeks to strengthen its position in the important core areas of Finance, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. The Senior Lecturer/Lecturer positions in the Department and the School will carry with them responsibility for the further development and enhancement of research and teaching programmes.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS: The Senior Lecturer/Lecturer will be expected to provide strong academic leadership and administrative support. Specifically, this will include:
TEACHING
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required by the Head Of Department. Supervise and assess student work.
- Develop and maintain a teaching portfolio that provides evidence of excellence in teaching.
RESEARCH
- Initiate and undertake research in your area of expertise
- Submit research-funding applications to appropriate bodies
- Disseminate knowledge through scholarly research activities and publications
- Participate in conferences to advance research interests
- Supervise graduate students research
- Work collaboratively with colleagues
ADMINISTRATION
- Foster the Department's relations with industry, professional bodies and the wider community
- Undertake administration of courses
- Participate in University/Department committees
- Foster the Department's relations with industry, professional bodies and the wider community
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of the University
- Comply with the University's obligation regarding equal employment opportunities and the Treaty of Waitangi
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant PhD. Candidates who are close to completing their PhDs may be considered for a tenure-track Lecturer's position.
- Associate Professorship: An especially well qualified and published applicant may be considered for an Associate Professorship.
EXPERIENCE: Teaching experience and research experience is preferred and ability to undertake a programme of research is essential.
