Faculty Positions in Finance

Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) invites applications for faculty at the assistant and associate professor level in all areas of Finance. The starting date is negotiable but would typically be September 2012.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position are expected to demonstrate excellence in research and either have a Ph.D. or expect to complete a Ph.D. in the near future. We are looking for candidates who have the potential to publish in the very top finance or economics journals. Applicants for a tenured position must in addition have several top publications and experience in teaching. JOB DESCRIPTION: Successful applicants will actively contribute to the lively research atmosphere in Rotterdam and teach in our master program in English. The teaching load is moderate. Assistant professor positions involve a six-year tenure track period. We offer a compensation package that is competitive relative to European salaries and that includes pension fund contributions. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL: The Erasmus School of Economics is one of the largest and most successful economics departments in Europe. ESE offers modern office space with views of the Rotterdam skyline, generous research support, as well as access to all major financial databases (WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Datastream, Bloomberg, I/B/E/S, Thomson One Banker, TAQ, CRSP Mutual Funds, RiskMetrics, OptionMetrics, etc). The ESE department of Finance is part of the Erasmus Finance Group that also includes Financial Econometrics at ESE and faculty of the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). Erasmus Finance runs an active weekly seminar series with speakers from top international schools, a separate brown bag seminar, several annual conferences, and a visitor program with eminent finance scholars. Erasmus Finance is supported by the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) through extensive research support to our faculty. The department is also associated with the Tinbergen Institute, a leading research institute in Europe that runs a highly selective U.S. style Ph.D. programs in Economics and Finance and provides additional research support to our faculty.

ABOUT THE AREA: Rotterdam is a pleasant and lively harbor city with 600,000 inhabitants. It is located in the west of the Netherlands and provides attractive and affordable living conditions, also for international faculty. The use of English in daily life poses no problem. Rotterdam has excellent rail connections to Amsterdam airport (30 min.), Amsterdam (40 min.), Brussels (75 min.), Paris (2.5 hours), and Frankfurt (4.5 hours). Amsterdam airport is the fourth biggest European airport with connections to major cities around the world. Shuttle services to London are operated from small Rotterdam airport. The standard of public services in the Netherlands, like healthcare and education, is high.
