12 to 14 November 2013, Sultan Hotel - Jakarta, Indonesia

The Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk ( http://www.CEAR.gsu.edu) at Georgia State University partners with Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Netowork to host the 9th International Microinsurance Conference from 12 to 14 November 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The conference aims at distilling and disseminating information on key developments in the microinsurance market. Sessions will engage all stakeholders to recognize opportunities in the low-income market.

CEAR's role is to organize the scientific portion of the conference with the aim to promote the exchange of relevant research conducted by academic scholars with policymakers, regulators, and insurance practitioners who are promoting the advancement of microinsurance markets.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Around 500 participants and experts from around the world will exchange views and discuss the challenges of microinsurance. The participants will include representatives of insurance and reinsurance companies, international organizations, NGOs and development-aid agencies as well as academics, policymakers, and supervisory regulators.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: CEAR is issuing a call for papers that examine the economics of insurance markets targeted to the world's poor. Applied, empirical, experimental and theory papers that offer insights into the demand for insurance by the world's poor and the supply of microinsurance are welcomed. Submissions that, more generally, conduct economic analysis of the innovative ways poor individuals, households and communities manage risk and vulnerability are also welcomed.

As part of this call, CEAR welcomes suggestions from senior researchers for possible semi-plenary sessions. The number of speakers in a semi-plenary would be limited to no more than two people thereby providing additional time to present ideas and receive feedback.

In addition to the conference itself, faculty researchers associated with CEAR will present a day-long pre-conference seminar. The purpose of this session will be to review recent advances in experimental methodologies for evaluating behavior, behavioral aspects of insurance and risk management, and the applications of these technologies to examine insights into human behavior in the insurance context. Professional and academic researchers interested to learn these cutting-edge methodologies are welcome to attend as part of the conference.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: All proposals will be reviewed by the conference steering committee. To submit a proposal, please complete the following proposal form in English: http://www.microinsuranceconference.org/2013. All submissions intended for the scientific track need to clearly indicate how their proposed session is relevant for practitioners and/or policymakers. In addition to the form, all proposals to present in the scientific track should include an electronic version of the abstract or draft paper in Acrobat (.pdf) or Word (.doc) format. Kindly note that no other format can be accepted. Proposals should be emailed to: info@munichre-foundation.org

Senior researchers who would like to propose ideas for a possible semi-plenary session should contact Professor Richard Phillips directly at cear@gsu.edu
