ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS


           EASTERN FINANCE ASSOCIATION 2010 ANNUAL MEETING

     The Eastern Finance Association (EFA) will be holding its
     46th Annual Meeting from April 14 through April 17, 2010 at
     the Miami Beach Resort in Miami Beach, Florida. The
     conference hotel is located right on the beachfront in
     beautiful South Beach, one of the world's most vibrant
     destinations. Outside the conference sessions, conference
     attendees will find plenty to do!


     Whether it's getting out on the water for jet-skiing or
     parasailing, walking the white-sand beach, hanging out at
     the Olympic-sized pool, enjoying the Art Deco architecture
     of South Beach, or exploring the exciting dining and club
     scene of South Beach, there will be plenty of nonacademic

     OVERVIEW:


     The EFA annual meetings offer excellent opportunities for
     academics, regulators, doctoral students, and practitioners
     to share ideas on the research, teaching, and practice of
     finance. I invite you to participate in the success of next
     year's meeting. As always, the EFA annual meeting will
     serve as a forum for a wide array of academic sessions
     across all areas of financial research. I encourage you to
     submit your most promising research projects. I'd also like
     to encourage you to spread the word to any of your
     colleagues who have not attended the EFA annual meeting in
     the past. Additionally, there will be opportunities for
     special sessions Focused on current issues in finance as
     well as for other types of panel sessions or tutorials.
     Finally, the success of the EFA annual meeting depends on
     the dedication of program committee members, discussants,
     and session chairs. I encourage you to help by volunteering
     for these roles.



     SUBMIT RESEARCH PAPERS OR IDEAS FOR SPECIAL SESSIONS:


     - Submit directly on the EFA website:

       First, make sure you have an EFA log-in ID by registering
       on the EFA website. Once you have an ID, click on the
       "Submit Paper" link on the right-hand side of the EFA
       website to proceed with the submission process. The
       deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 9, 2009.
       All papers submitted through the EFA website will be
       double blind-reviewed by members of the EFA program
       committee.


     - Authors of papers and special sessions selected for
       presentation will be notified in late November or early
       December 2009. For each accepted paper or proposal, an
       author will be required to register within four weeks of
       the acceptance notification to secure a place on the EFA
       annual meeting program. Additionally, any registered
       author of an accepted research paper will be obligated to
       discuss at least one paper at the meeting.



     VOLUNTEER TO SERVE ON THE EFA PROGRAM COMMITTEE:


     - The success of the EFA annual meeting depends heavily on
       the dedication of the EFA program committee. Program
       committee members review submitted papers and abstracts
       (September-October) and organize academic sessions by
       recruiting chairs and discussants (December­January).

     VOLUNTEER TO SERVE AS A DISCUSSANT AND/OR SESSION CHAIR:


     Discussants and session chairs provide an integral part
     of the experience of the academic sessions. By providing
     constructive criticism of papers presented, discussants
     help authors improve their research. Session chairs bring
     order to each academic session by ensuring that all session
     participants share adequate time to present their work. I

     EFA 2010 DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR:


     - Professor John R. Graham, D. Richard Mead Jr. Family
       Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business of
       Duke University will present the keynote address and
       receive the EFA Distinguished Scholar Award for 2010.



     OUTSTANDING PAPER AWARDS:


     - Authors will have the opportunity to enter accepted
       papers for a variety of outstanding paper awards.



     SPECIAL NOTE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS:


     - The EFA meeting registration fee will be waived for all
       graduate students with an accepted paper on the meeting
       program.
     - One of the Outstanding Paper Award categories will be for
       the best sole-authored graduate student research paper
       (and yes, there is cash associated with the award!).



     PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
