      FIRST Ph.D. SYMPOSIUM ON CORPORATE CONTROL AND GOVERNANCE

     ECCCS is organizing its first Ph.D. Symposium on corporate
     governance and control, to take place at the ESC-Lille
     School of Management (Lille, France) on March 8-9, 2010.
     Ph.D. students are encouraged to submit papers (single- or
     coauthored) on corporate control transactions in particular
     and their role in enhancing firms' corporate governance
     practices in general. While ECCS encourages high-quality
     empirical and theoretical research within the European
     institutional context, the Symposium is open to papers from
     other geographical regions (such as the U.S.) as well.


     TOPICS:

     Topics of interest include - but are not limited to:

     - Value-creation in corporate takeovers
     - Strategic bidding and target defensive tactics
     - Restructuring techniques and their valuation effects
     - Highly leveraged transactions. LBOs and breakups
     - Financing takeovers
     - Takeover initiations and managerial incentives
     - Mergers, industrial organization, and antitrust policy
     - Control transactions as governance of last resort

     The scientific advisory board will select eight papers for
     presentation by doctoral students on March 8, and the Ph.D.
     Symposium will be followed by a general workshop consisting
     of invited papers on March 9. For the eight selected Ph.D.
     students, registration to the Ph.D. Symposium and the
     workshop is free of charge and accommodation will be
     provided. The Symposium will also honor the best student
     presentation with the Credit Mutuel Nord Europe award of
     1.000 Euro.

     PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

     Please e-mail a pdf version of the paper by December 15,
     2009. Final decisions on accepted papers will occur no
     later than January 15, 2010.
