Academic Position in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Faculty of Economics and Business
The Faculty of Economics and Business of KU
Leuven KULAK (campus Kortrijk) has a vacant
position in the field of Entrepreneurship and
Innovation. We are looking for motivated
candidates with a promising research record and
with demonstrable teaching skills in this field.
DUTIES:
Research: The successful candidate will conduct
research in the field of Entrepreneurship and
Innovation and this in close collaboration with
the expertise already available at the Faculty of
Economics and Business, e.g. in the study of
regional innovation systems; institutions and
entrepreneurship; entrepreneurship, growth and
job creation; successful models of start-up and
growth with special attention for high-tech
start-ups; success factors of entrepreneurship
and/or intrapreneurship; innovation management; new product development.
The successful candidate will gradually develop
his/her own research agenda in a promising
subfield of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
He/she will strive for excellence in research and
as such will contribute to the reputation of the
Faculty of Economics and Business.
The successful candidate will also focus on the
valorization of applied research commissioned by
the government and/or the corporate world. In
time he/she will also take up the role of contact
person for various initiatives regarding
innovation and valorization in the region of West-Flanders.
Candidates should enclose a research statement
(max. 2 pages) that underlines what their added
value will be to the research program.
Teaching: The successful candidate will engage in
high quality teaching within the field of
Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He/she will
contribute to the educational project of KULAK
and will show the necessary commitment to uphold
the high standards of this program on the campus of Kortrijk.
He/she will develop a teaching style in line with
the KU Leuven perspective on activating and
research based education, and will take advantage
of the opportunities to professionalize teaching
skills offered by the faculty and the university.
The qualified candidate will start with a
teaching load of two courses in the third year of
the bachelor program of Business Economics, viz.
Regional Innovation Systems and New Product and
Service Development. He/she will also be
responsible for the academic coordination of
business projects on campus. During the whole
career the faculty will pay close attention to
the balance of research time and teaching time.
Candidates should enclose a teaching statement
(max. 1 page) that explains their view on academic higher education.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The qualified candidate has a
PhD in Economics or Business with an emphasis on
entrepreneurship and/or innovation or a PhD in
Behavioral sciences or sociology with evidence of
expertise in the intended field of research.
The qualified candidate holds a lot of research
potential. The quality of research should be
evidenced by the quality of the PhD dissertation,
international publications and international
research experience. If the candidate graduated
recently, academic references should corroborate the research potential.
He/she had teaching experience at the university
level and can demonstrate strong didactical
skills. Research based teaching experience is an
asset. The qualified candidate is communicative,
has organizational talent and is a team player.
Excellent knowledge of English is a requirement.
Candidates who are not proficient in Dutch,
should after three years master Dutch
sufficiently in order to participate in committees and board meetings.

Although research can be developed in
collaboration with colleagues on other campuses
of the faculty, this position requires a clear
commitment and full-time dedication to the
Kortrijk campus. Kortrijk is a dynamic and
vibrant city, only twenty minutes from Lille and
less than two hours from Paris and London. De
campus engages in an intensive collaboration with
the business schools and universities of Northern France.
The appointment will be tenure track with an evaluation after five years.
