PatCon 3 Annual Patent Conference

April 12th and 13th at the Chicago-Kent College

PatCon 3, the annual Patent Conference, will be held April 12th and 13th at the Chicago-Kent College Law School. The Patent Conference, or PatCon, is a cooperative effort between the University of Kansas School of Law, the Chicago-Kent College of Law, the University of San Diego School of Law, and Boston College Law School to hold an annual conference where patent scholars in law, economics, management science, and other disciplines can share their research.

OVERVIEW: Several years ago, the founders of PatCon, (David Olson, Dave Schwartz, Ted Sichelman, and Andrew Torrance) realized that the growth and importance of research in the area of patents required an exclusive forum that would enable participants to share their research with other experts and explore links across the legal and business side of patents. Details about the first PatCon (2011), hosted at the University of Kansas, and the second PatCon (2012), hosted at Boston College Law School, can be found at: http://www.law.ku.edu/iplaw and http://www.bc.edu/schools/law/newsevents/events/patcon.html

In addition to academic presentations, PatCon 3 will include remarks about the patent system from Seventh Circuit Judge Richard Posner and Federal Circuit Judge Richard Linn. Like last year, we will be hosting both plenary and concurrent paper presentation sessions. The plenary panels will allow scholars to present current, well-developed work, while the concurrent sessions will be appropriate for less-developed drafts and works in progress.

PAPER SUBMISSIONS/PARTICIPATION: If you would like to present your patent research at the 2013 Patent Conference, please submit an abstract to David Schwartz (dschwartz@kentlaw.iit.edu) by February 4th, 2013. If you'd like to attend without presenting, please also notify me by February 4th. Please specify if you'd like your paper to be considered for a plenary panel. Full papers for plenary sessions are due by March 22nd. We welcome scholarship from not only from legal academics, but also from scholars in other fields, such as economics, business, management science, policy, public health, engineering, and technology studies.

Presenters will need to cover their own travel and accommodations expenses, but there will be no registration fee, and meals and refreshments during the conference will be provided. Dave, Ted, Andrew, and I look forward to your participation in PatCon 3.
