CONFERENCE OVERVIEW: The third annual Darden Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Conference is co-organized by the Batten Institute and the Academy of Management's (AOM) Entrepreneurship Division, as part of the Entrepreneurship Research Exemplars Conference Series. This event will bring together leading scholars in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation and highlight best practices for top-tier research that advances the evolution of these fields.
The conference will begin with a keynote address by Scott Stern of MIT, held at the University of Virginia's Rotunda, a World Heritage site. Stern will speak on the topic: "Does Entrepreneurship Need Strategy?" A broad range of panels and plenary sessions will cover subjects such as the "Congruence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research," moderated by Michael Lenox of Darden and featuring panelists Rajshree Agarwal of Maryland, Mary Tripsas of Harvard, and Gary Dushnitsky of London Business School. Greg Fairchild of Darden will host a Fireside Chat with Howard Aldrich of the University of the North Carolina. In total, over 20 authors, both rising researchers and senior scholars, will present on topics such as inventing, collaborating, financing, cross-border mobility, and entrepreneurship's role in solving social problems.
Exemplars activities will be simulcast live via the Internet. If you cannot attend in person, please register for the simulcast. Register early, as there is a cap of 500 participants due to bandwidth constraints.
ABOUT THE AOM ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE: The Academy of Management's (AOM) Entrepreneurship Division launched the Exemplars Conference Series in 2009 as a "new-format" invited best practices conference for advancing top-tier research in entrepreneurship. The inaugural conference was held at the University of Connecticut, and its aim was to set transparent milestones for encouraging and accelerating the successful publishing of top-tier entrepreneurship research from multi-disciplinary, highly committed scholars. All sessions were web-streamed and recorded for future downloading, and that tradition continues with the 2012 event co-organized with Darden's Batten Institute.
ABOUT THE BATTEN INSTITUTE: The Batten Institute at the Darden School of Business creates value and transforms society through entrepreneurship and innovation. The Institute's academic research center advances knowledge that addresses real-world challenges and shapes Darden's curriculum, and the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership offers one of the world's top entrepreneurship programs. The Batten Institute was established with gifts now totaling over $100 million from U.Va. alumnus Frank Batten, Sr., a media pioneer, visionary, and founder of The Weather Channel.
