21ST ANNUAL GATEWAY ENTREPRENEURSHIP RESEARCH CONFERENCE
Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO
April 16-18, 2010
Please make your plans to attend the 21st Annual Gateway
Entrepreneurship Research Conference at Saint Louis
University, St. Louis, MO, April 16-18, 2010. This is a
uniquely styled conference that fosters lively group
discussions following the keynote addresses given by Dr.
Kelly Shaver, Professor and Chair in the Department of
Management and Entrepreneurship at College of Charleston,
and Dr. Barbara Bird, Associate Professor in the Kogod
School of Business at American University.
The 2010 conference explores the specifying, measuring, and
teaching of entrepreneur behavior. A recent review of
entrepreneur behavior at the level of individual (or group)
actions during the start up of a venture reveals that this
broad category of personal characteristics is specified,
measured, and taught in a myriad of ways. There is no well-
founded theory or model of entrepreneur behavior that
distinguishes it from managerial, leadership, creative
behaviors, etc. Such a theory or model is necessary to
advance research and to enable better observation and
teaching of potential entrepreneurs.
TOPICS:
At the meeting, we would like to have structured discussion
topics such as:
- What are the theories (and research) that guide
entrepreneurial start up behavior at the individual level
(as distinct from organizational behavior, leadership
behavior)?
- What dimensions should define entrepreneur behavior?
- How do we recognize entrepreneur behavior?
- What measurements should be used to assess/measure
entrepreneur behavior?
- Strategies for funding a multi-year project to develop
psychometrically sound measures.
