AND INNOVATION DATA
Research funding will be awarded in amounts up
to $10,000 for individual scholars and up to
$20,000 for groups of scholars.

Sponsored and Administered by the
Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation
The 2007 Kauffman Symposium on Entrepreneurship and
Innovation Data ( http://www.ssrn.com/link/2007-Kauffman.html )
brought together representatives from more than 30 new or
newly-updated data sets that can be used for research into
entrepreneurship and innovation. To further the goals of
the Symposium, the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is
pleased to announce a small grants program for researchers
interested in analyzing one or more of the data sets
presented at the Symposium.
RESEARCH FUNDING CATEGORIES:
Research funding will be awarded in amounts up to $10,000
for individual scholars and up to $20,000 for groups of
scholars. There are three entrepreneurship and innovation
funding categories:
Dissertations: for doctoral students wishing to use one of
the data sets to write dissertations
Database Improvements: for scholars willing to improve the
understanding of the data sets by merging across data sets
Policy Analysis: for scholars interested in advancing
understanding of a particular aspect of entrepreneurship or
innovation policy
Each individual data set has different requirements for
access and the Kauffman Foundation does not imply or
guarantee access. Proposals will be considered on their
scholarly merit and fit to the funding priorities listed.
Conditional awarding of grants will be made for proposals
that seek to utilize a data set for which the researchers
have not yet gained permission for use, but final awarding
of grants will not be made until researchers have secured
proper approval from all organizations providing data for
the project.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Researchers will be required to: (1) report on research
progress, and (2) present working papers as a part of the
Kauffman Foundation's working paper series with SSRN, which
does not preclude publication in journals.
Research proposals should consist of the following:
- Identification of the category into which the proposal
falls.
- A description of the proposed work (up to ten pages).
- The CV of the researcher(s).
- An itemized budget, including additional funding and a
narrative justification.
Authors should use Arial typeface with a twelve-point font
and one-inch margins. The deadline to apply for research
funding for this small grants program is January 15, 2008,
by 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time.
Proposals should be e-mailed to:
Email: MAILTO:ereedy@kauffman.org
as PDF or Microsoft Word documents.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
Attendance at the Symposium is not a prerequisite for
application to this small grant program, but all proposals
must propose to use one of the data sets presented at the
Symposium. Funding is open only to students pursuing doctoral
degrees and scholars associated with an accredited U.S.
institution of higher education or non-profit organization.
All grant funds are required to be used for direct project/
program expenses. No portion may be used for indirect expenses.
