Postdoctoral Fellow/Development Strategy and Governance Division (Position #13-142)
The International Food Policy Research Institute
(IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a
Postdoctoral Fellow for its Ethiopia Strategy
Support Program II (ESSP II) in the Development
Strategy Governance Division (DSGD). The position
is a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment
based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Under the
supervision of the Director of DSGD, the
successful candidate will work with a
multi-disciplinary team of researchers from ESSP
II and Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division
(PHND) of IFPRI as well as and partner
organizations on organizing and analyzing the
baseline and impact surveys for the Feed the
Future Zone of Influence in Ethiopia.
Please note that Postdoctoral Fellow appointments
at IFPRI have a maximum term of three (3) years,
inclusive of any approved appointment extensions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serve as an active member of the team that is
responsible for implementing the baseline and
follow-on surveys and conducting analysis in the
context of evaluating the impact of Feed the Future investments in Ethiopia;
- Participate in and, as appropriate, coordinate
the design and implementation of field survey
activities, data entry and analyses, and report
writing as per the requirements of the project
titled "Impact Evaluation of Feed the Future Programs in Ethiopia (2012-2017)";
- Work with a variety of stakeholders, including
donors (especially USAID), partners from other
CGIAR centers, and other partner institutions to
stimulate new policy-relevant research;
- Conduct studies relevant to the research
portfolio of ESSP II using primary and
other data, write up findings, contribute such
papers to ESSP II/IFPRI publication series
(working papers, discussion papers, research
monographs), and, ultimately, publish in peer-reviewed journals;
- Work, as appropriate, with colleagues on developing research proposal;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Economics or Agricultural Economics or related discipline
- Demonstrated ability to design and manage
quantitative research studies, including design
of field work, training of enumerators,
supervision of data entry, data analysis and writing and publication of results
- Demonstrated ability to publish in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals
- Demonstrated ability to work in
multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of
stakeholders on multi-sectoral projects
- Knowledge of and experience with a range of evaluation methods and designs
- Experience in communicating results in
different multicultural and multi-stakeholder settings
- Ability to multi-task, work in a dynamic
environment, and take initiatives to resolve issues
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Demonstrated computer and data analysis
literacy (PC and Microsoft Applications; and STATA)
- Willingness to travel extensively as required
- Excellent interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with agriculture and nutrition literature and research
- Experience working with economists and nutritionists
