Postdoctoral Fellow/Development Strategy and Governance Division (Position #13-180)

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Postdoctoral Fellow for its Development Strategy and Governance (DSG) Division. The position is a two-year, fixed-term appointment, and is renewable depending on performance and funding. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters located in Washington, D.C.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Conducting research and in-depth analysis of macro, sectoral or household data broadly related to structural transformation, employment, trade, agricultural development and food security in Central Asia.
- Supporting efforts to strengthen the capacity of partner organizations and national research collaborators to conduct scholarly research and communicate the results of empirical research to a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of research output for publication outlets both within IFPRI, for peer-reviewed journals within the wider scientific community.
- Creating linkages to external collaborators and research groups, when possible to further IFPRI's work.
- Establishing active links with various regional and national research and government institutions in Central Asia.
- Maintaining active policy communication with national policy-makers and researchers in the region through individual consultations, regular policy seminars, policy briefs, etc.
- Reporting or assist in reporting on program/project activities by preparing project reports, research papers, etc.

The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of researchers, and is expected to engage in a broad range of research projects and activities in Central Asia.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or related field.
- Strong capabilities in quantitative data analysis including applied econometric analysis.
- Proficiency in STATA and other econometric/computational software packages.
- Understanding of issues related to structural transformation, agricultural development, poverty reduction and food security in transition countries.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills with demonstrated excellence in written and oral presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and within multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience with applied policy and research activities in transition countries of Eurasia region.
- Interest in economic transition, poverty reduction, agricultural development and food security in Central Asia.
- Proficiency in Russian.
