Ph.D. Fellowship at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics, University of Bergen, has a vacant PhD position in the field of Industrial Organization and Competition Policy. The scholarship period is set to 4 years, 25% of which must be dedicated to teaching, supervision and administrative tasks at the Department.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: Department of Economics (http://www.uib.no/econ) is one of seven departments under the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Department offers teaching of economics at all levels, and lead the students to the degrees of bachelor, master and PhD. Research and teaching at the Department cover a broad spectrum of sub-disciplines. The Department's methodological core competencies are within game theory, incentive theory and applied micro econometrics. Based on these competencies the Department has research groups in the following four fields:
- Industrial organization and economic organization
- Social insurance and labour economics
- Health economics
- Natural resources, environmental and development economics
The vacant position is affiliated with Bergen Center for Competition Law and Economics (BECCLE), http://www.beccle.no, We offer scientific interdisciplinary collaboration in a highly motivated team on a recent and important issues in IO and competition policy.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants must hold a master of science (or comparable) degree in economics with a specialization in IO and competition policy. The degree has to be completed by the application deadline.
- The person must be willing and able to contribute to research in an interdisciplinary team consisting of legal and economic scholars.
- Candidates with proven skills in IO, game theory and/or empirical models of IO will be preferred.
- Requirements are an excellent Master of Science degree in economics; minimum grade B on the Master dissertation and for the Master degree in total, as well as proficiency in English.
- As an applicant you should be independent, have a considerable work capacity as well as an enthusiasm for research.

- Salaries start at level 50 (code 1017) on the government salary scale (equivalent to NOK 416.600, - per year).

PROPOSAL: A research proposal of 5-8 pages must accompany the application. The proposal should present the topic, the research problem(s) and choice of theory and methods. The proposal should also include a progress plan for the different parts of the project. A budget of running costs should be included. Admittance to the PhD-programme will be based on the research proposal.

The teaching language at the Department is usually Norwegian.
