The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City invites applications for a Senior Editor.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Sets editorial direction of print and/or electronic communications products by determining uniform style, creating schedules, and ensuring products deliver high quality messages, emulate the Bank's direction and values, and reflect an appropriate image for the organization. Supervises complex communication strategies by planning the dissemination of Bank messages, obtaining buy-in and support from senior management, and overseeing the development and execution of the medium, products, methods, etc. Reviews, edits, and/or rewrites economic articles, speeches, and/or other communication pieces to ensure clarity, audience suitability, proper structure, conformation to space constraints, and overall effectiveness. Approves content as appropriate. Monitors content development schedules to ensure deadlines are met. Directs production of economic and/or general-interest publications to ensure timeliness and quality control. Consults with graphic designer to resolve layout issues. Writes and produces articles or other collateral materials such as preface, headlines, and photo captions to satisfy marketing and editorial goals. Coaches senior-level economists and subject matter experts in writing skills. Develops and/or conducts writing seminars for non-professional writers. Writes, proofreads, and/or edits content for communication materials and projects. Oversees work plans for projects including responsibilities, time frames, deadlines, and costs. Interacts with senior management, economists, and subject matter experts for strategic communications planning and developing and reviewing copy for publication to communicate key messages. Provide direction and mentorship to writing staff and, as appropriate, assumes a leadership role for the staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Economics, Business, or Business Writing with editorial experience in business or professional economics publications. Master's degree is preferred. At least three to five years of directly related experience as a technical or publications editor. Excellent verbal and written communication, editing, customer relationship, and leadership skills. Good coaching skills demonstrating tact and authority. Good understanding of fundamentals of public speaking, macroeconomics, banking, financial markets, and monetary policy. Excellent understanding of marketing communications, editing, and publications production. Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization. Ability to maintain professionalism and establish trust and confidence.
