THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH (NCAR)
                         Boulder, Colorado

Research Economist in Integrated Assessment Modeling

The Climate and Global Dynamics Division at the National
Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado
seeks an economist to join a growing integrated assessment
modeling group examining key aspects of the climate change
issue. The successful applicant will play a central role in
the development and application of the economic component
of our integrated assessment model, iPETS (integrated
     Population-Economy-Technology-Science model). The economic
     model is a multi-sector, multi-region, computable general
equilibrium (CGE) model of the global economy, with detail
in the treatment of energy and land.

     ABOUT NCAR:

NCAR's recently formed integrated assessment modeling (IAM)
group includes both social and natural scientists (see -
     http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/ccr/iam/). NCAR is committed to
expanding its capacity in the IAM field, and the group has
an organizational home among both natural scientists
modeling the climate system and land cover change (Climate
and Global Dynamics division, CGD; see -
     http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/) as well as within a cross-cutting
     program fostering collaborations across disciplines
(Integrated Science Program, ISP; see -
http://www.isp.ucar.edu/). The IAM group aims to assess
climate change response options by developing and applying
new socio-economic models that leverage NCAR's status as a
     world-leading climate modeling center.

     JOB DESCRIPTION:

This successful candidate will carry out independent and
collaborative research on economic aspects of the climate
change issue within the context of the iPETS model at the
global, national, and sub-national level. This individual
will identify important questions related to the
interactions of economic systems with the climate system
and with social and technological issues, and design and
carry out analyses to address them. The area of focus of
this research is open; areas of particular interest to the
program are the representation in integrated assessment
modeling of energy systems, land use, decision-making under
uncertainty, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation.

operations research, or closely related field; and up to
five years' experience beyond Ph.D. Initial appointment
level will be commensurate with experience.

The position requires advanced knowledge of CGE modeling,
including data requirements/ analysis and numerical
     approaches to model implementation. Demonstrated
programming skills are required. Experience with Fortran
preferred, or demonstrated skills in other programming
languages and a willingness to apply them within a Fortran
setting. Must have knowledge of issues related to the
