                                 Head



     Kincannon & Reed has been retained by The University of
     Nebraska-Lincoln to recruit candidates for the position of
     Head, Department of Agricultural Economics. This department
     offers a nationally recognized undergraduate program in
     Agricultural Business and also has majors in Agricultural
     Economics and Natural Resource and Environmental Economics.
     PhD and MS degrees are offered in Agricultural Economics,
     including joint MS programs with Animal Science and
     Statistics. Research and Extension programs provide
     education and information to the state, region, nation and
     the world.



     JOB DESCRIPTION:


     This position is a 12-month, 1.00 FTE, administrative
     assignment. The Agricultural Economics Department Head is
     responsible for the administration and leadership of the
     teaching, research, extension/outreach, and international
     activities in the department. Specific duties include, but
     are not limited to:


     - Responsible to the Institute of Agriculture and Natural
       Resources (IANR) Deans and Directors which includes the
       College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
       (CASNR), Agricultural Research Division (ARD), and
       Cooperative Extension Division (CED), and to the IANR
       Vice Chancellor.
     - Provide leadership for the development, implementation,
       and evaluation of departmental graduate and undergraduate
       teaching, research, and extension programs in accordance
       with University and IANR strategic and action plans.
     - Develop and administer budgets for the departmental
       programs. Work closely with faculty in establishing
       program priorities and plans, in allocating physical,
       budgetary, and support staff resources, and in pursuing
       internal and external grant support.
     - Facilitate recruitment, development, and retention of
       departmental faculty and staff.
     - Oversee agricultural economics programs at research and
       extension centers.
     - Coordinate and participate in undergraduate and graduate
       student recruitment and retention activities in the
       department, the college and the university.
     - Provide administrative leadership for faculty and staff
       assigned to the unit with major attention to professional
       development and evaluation, and participate in joint
       evaluation of faculty with research and extension
       directors and heads or chairs.
     - Foster interdisciplinary ties with appropriate
       departments and programs within the University.
     - Encourage linkages with external groups to strengthen
       ties with stakeholders, state, regional, national and
       international organizations, governmental agencies (state
       and federal), non-governmental organizations, alumni and
       the citizens of Nebraska.
     - Coordinate and develop plans for facility use.  Provide
       liaison between the administration and the faculty on
       recommendations/actions which are subject to approval at
       a level beyond the department.
     - Maintain a productive environment for research, teaching,
       extension, public service and international programs, and
       within available time, participate in these activities.
     - Promote compliance with federal and state regulations
       regarding hazardous wastes, safety, and other
       regulations.
     - Ensure that all programs of the department are
       administered according to the University's Equity, Access
       and Diversity program.
     - Maintain an inclusive climate in the unit.
     - Work with the Department's advisory board.
     - Carry out other duties as assigned or needed to advance
       the departmental role and mission.



     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


     Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in
     Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a closely related
     field, and must meet the qualifications for appointment as
     a tenured professor. Applicants must have the demonstrated
     skills and abilities to undertake the responsibilities of
     the department head as outlined. Familiarity with the Land-
     Grant system is highly desirable.
