                    Research and Policy Professional


      The Center for Development Economics and Poverty Reduction
      is preparing to launch the Consortium on Financial Systems
      and Poverty, a newly established research consortium whose
      goal is to oversee the development of a growing body of
      rigorous research that would put financial services for the
      poor, with emphasis on the impact of financial services,
      the impact of macro and regulatory policy and electronic/
      mobile-banking, on a firm theoretical foundation and guide
      effective action. Funded by a $15 million grant from the
      Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the consortium requires
      a Research and Policy Professional whose role it would be
      to work closely with the Faculty and Program Directors to
      spearhead the central research efforts.


      JOB DESCRIPTION:

      Coordinating with consortium members, other researchers and
      a communication team, the Research and Policy Professional
      will understand the research and help to detail it.
      Specifically, the Research and Policy Professional will
      create documents and oversee data summaries that fill in
      current gaps in the field and translate rigorous research
      findings into a digestible format for policymakers and
      stakeholders. Additionally, the Research and Policy
      Professional will work closely with the Center's
      Communications Director to ensure research messages are
      effectively delivered to the media and public and also
      liaison directly with policy makers to heighten the impact
      of the project.


      JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

      PhD in Economics, Finance, Public Policy or related field
      by August 31, 2009 (individuals who successfully defended
      their dissertation in 2008 but have not yet received their
      formal degree are eligible) required; public relations
      skills and experience required; two years experience
      working with policymakers and academics strongly preferred;
      experience working in public policy preferred; strong
      background in economics and financial services using a
      broad systems approach, rather than a narrow field
      approach, required; ability to condense complicated
      financial issues into simple summaries that can be
      understood by a variety of constituencies required;
      frequent travel required.
