            Established (Full) Professorship of Economics


      NUI Galway seeks to appoint a Professor of Economics in the
      Department of Economics within the recently established
      J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics which, in
      turn, is one of two Schools in the College of Business,
      Law, and Public Policy.

      The Department has strategic strengths in both teaching and
      research in a number of areas in economics. These areas
      have been built up over a number of years and are reflected
      in the quality of research output in these areas as well as
      in specialised teaching programmes at both undergraduate
      and postgraduate levels. The following areas have been
      identified as priority research areas by the Department:

      - Health Economics
      - Sustainability, Rural Development and Environmental
        Economics
      - International Finance and Macroeconomics
      - Mathematical Economics, Methodology of Economics, and
        Political Economy


      JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

      The new Professor of Economics should be someone who is
      comfortable with and committed to supporting all four
      priority research areas. In particular the new Professor
      should:

      a.  Be an established person in the economics discipline
          with an outstanding record of research and academic
          leadership
      b.  be able to provide strong academic leadership to the
          Department so that it continues on a developmental
          trajectory
      c.  have a programme of research that enhances one or more
          of the priority research areas in the Department but be
          willing to support all the priority research areas in
          the Department
      d.  have a demonstrable capacity to manage people,
          resources  and systems, effectively and collegially,
          including the capacity to communicate effectively with
          internal and external audiences
      e.  demonstrate a capacity to develop and implement
          strategic level plans for the department in an evolving
          institutional and policy context within the University
          and beyond
      f.  demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, and have
          an understanding of the possibilities of an explicit
          focus on teaching development for individuals and the
          department
