Applications are now being accepted for the
Economics (ECON) track within the 2013/14 PhD
program at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies
Lucca (http://www.imtlucca.it). The track trains
researchers, professionals and experts in
political economy, applied public economics,
industrial economics, with a focus on comparative
institutional analysis, on big data and the
empirical analysis of real and financial markets,
and on macroeconomic policy. With its
theoretical, quantitative and institutional
approach, the program meets the increasing demand
for highly qualified professionals, able to
analyze, plan, and manage concrete applications of political economy.
COURSE DETAILS: Courses, held in English, are led
by world-renowned researchers and were created
with a threefold purpose. First, to assure
through introductory courses that all students
have the necessary scientific skillset. Second,
to guarantee the appropriate training in each
specific discipline through core courses; to
instill a broader cross-field standpoint, these
are accessible to students in other
tracks/curricula. Third, advanced courses are
curriculum-specific and introduce students to
state-of-the-art results in the corresponding
field. In addition to courses, the program is
enriched by research seminars that are offered to
transmit highly-specific and avant-garde concepts
and, at the same time, be accessible to a wide student audience.
Students will also have the possibility of
performing advanced research in the following research units:
- Laboratory for the Analysis of Complex Economic Systems (AXES)
- Laboratory of Innovation Management and Economics (LIME)
- Research Unit on Institutional Change, Economics, Society (ICES)
PhD students, besides receiving the standard
research scholarship of Euro 13,600/year (amount
established by Italian law), are offered
on-campus housing on a brand-new and fully
integrated campus in the historical center of the
beautiful Tuscan city of Lucca, and daily access
to the canteen. Students also get the opportunity
to spend research periods abroad during the program.
Please note that 5 additional PhD scholarships
have been made available by two institutes of the
Italian National Research Council (CNR), namely
the Institute of Informatics and Telematics
(http://www.iit.cnr.it/en) and the Institute of
Information Science and Technologies (http://www.isti.cnr.it/).
