Finkt Summer School 2013 (FinKT - Financing Knowledge Transfer in Europe)
Summer School on the Economics and Management of Intellectual Property

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the Summer School is to promote cutting edge international research on economics and management of intellectual property rights (IPRs), involving scholars from Universities, business professionals, researchers, post-docs and PhD students. The Summer School intends to promote research in the field of intellectual property systems and intangible assets, by encouraging the work of Ph.D students and early stage researchers regarding strategic, economic and financial aspects of IPRs.

DESCRIPTION: The Summer School will combine lectures and seminars by internationally renowned scholars, presentations of working papers by students and young scholars, as well as speeches by industry leaders and policy makers. Students will have the opportunity to present their research work in the form of draft papers or preliminary research statements, which will be discussed by senior scholars. The official language of the school will be English. The School will last one week (Monday to Friday) and will admit 25 participants. It will be primarily, although not exclusively, oriented to PhD students or young researchers from all over the world interested in topics related to economics and management of innovation and intellectual property.

The School will take place in Bologna and it will be organized in the structures of the University of Bologna and of Alma Graduate School (http://www.almaweb.unibo.it).

TOPICS: Seminars will address the following topics:
- The evolution of IPR regimesand spin-off formation
- Economic analysis of patents
- Appropriability regimes and use of IPRs
- Strategic management of IPRs
- Economics and management of trademarks
- Markets for technology, licensing
- Academic patenting and technology transfer
- IPRs and VC financing
- The use of databases on patents, trademarks and designs
- Methodological issues in IPR research

SPONSOR: The Summer School is organized within the FinKT (Financing Knowledge Transfer in Europe) research project, financed by the European Investment Bank under the EIBURS measure. The FinKT project, based at the Department of Management of the University of Bologna in collaboration with Bocconi University (website: finkt.unibo.it) has the overall goal to map and analyze the financial instruments activated in Europe to support technology transfer activities from universities to the industry.

Thanks to the EIB funding, there will be no participation fees for the School. Participants will only have to cover their accommodation expenses.

REGISTRATION: Registrations shall be submitted not later April 12th, 2013 including: 1. an extended abstract of the paper to be presented (maximum 3 pages), with a clear indication of corresponding author's contact details (possibly in pdf format) to Serena Giovannoni (serena.giovannoni@gmail.com)

- Submission deadline: April 12th, 2013
- Admission confirmations: April 19th, 2013
- Final paper submissions: May 10th, 2013

ACCOMMODATION: Participants will be granted a special rate to cover accommodation expenses at the Residence Galaxy. Rates will include co-shared apartments as follows:
