TILEC 3rd Workshop on "Competition Policy and Regulation in Media and Telecommunications: Bridging Law and Economics"
23 and 24 May 2013, Tilburg, the Netherlands
Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC) (http://www.tilburguniversity.edu/research/institutes-and-research-groups/tilec) organizes its 3rd Workshop on "Competition Policy and Regulation in Media and Telecommunications: Bridging Law and Economics" on 23 and 24 May 2013 in Tilburg, the Netherlands
The goal of the conference is to bring together EU and US academics working on media and communication-related issues and to foster interdisciplinary interaction between economists and lawyers. Hence, while the objective is to have economic and legal contributions of the highest quality, effort in presenting it to a mixed audience is expected upon selection. Theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented articles are welcome.
TOPICS: Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: The goal of public intervention: efficiency versus pluralism, The impact of convergence and digitalization, Network neutrality, Cloud computing, The New Audiovisual Media Services Directive in the EU, The EU Regulatory Framework for Electronic Communications, Media market structure and political outcomes, Media mergers and pluralism, Media bias: measurement and determinants, Scope for public ownership and public service broadcasting, Financing of public service broadcasting, Subsidies for old and new media, Regulation of advertising and media content, Media as two-sided markets, Piracy, peer-to-peer, copyright, Exclusive contracts, Vertical integration between distribution and content provision, Vertical integration between telecommunications and media, Bundling, Local content in digital markets, Privacy, anonymity, security, digital rights management, Advertising regulation.
TILEC will cover the accommodation expenses and contribute to the travelling expenses of selected speakers.
PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2013. Papers should be submitted in PDF format to TILEC-Media@tilburguniversity.edu. Long abstracts are accepted but full papers are preferred. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by March 22, 2013. Speakers might be asked to discuss a paper. Completed drafts of accepted papers are due by April 22, 2013.
