2012 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
The Global Development Network ( http://www.gdn.int) invites researchers and organizations from developing and transition countries to submit research proposals, completed research papers and proposals for scaling-up development projects.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The Global Development Awards and Medals Competition is an innovative award scheme launched by GDN with generous support from the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan, and other donors that fosters and supports research capacity development of social science researchers and funds social development projects in the developing world.
COMPETITION CATEGORY:
- Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD): ORD is a competitive research grant program that requests for submissions in research proposals from researchers in developing countries. The proposals must have a potential for academic excellence in research and clear policy implications for addressing development issues in any of the three themes listed below. Competition Themes:
1) Inequality
2) Social Protection and Social Policies
3) Inclusive Growth
Finalists will be invited to travel and present their proposals at GDN's 14th Annual Global Development Conference in Manila, the Philippines from 19-21 June 2013.
Deadline: 11 March, 2013
First Prize: US$ 30,000; Second Prize: US$ 10,000; Third Prize: US$ 5,000
- Medals for Research on Development (Medals): Medals is a competitive grant program that requests for submissions in completed research papers. The papers must have engaged path-breaking approaches in addressing contemporary development issues in in any of the three themes listed below. Competition Themes:
4) Inequality
5) Social Protection and Social Policies
6) Inclusive Growth
The two top ranked finalists from each theme will get the opportunity to showcase their completed research papers in the plenary sessions at the 14th Annual Global Development Conference to be held in Manila, Philippines from 19-21 June, 2013. Experts and well-established scholars from each theme will be discussants and panelists at these plenary sessions.
Deadline: 11 March, 2013
First Prize: US$ 10,000; Second Prize: US$ 5,000
- Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP): MIDP is a competitive grant program funds development projects proposals being executed in the field with the ability to scale up their work through a grant of US$ 30,000 for the first prize, US$ 10,000 for the second and US$ 5000 for the third prize. The grants are awarded to organizations that are carrying out innovative, improved service delivery in the field to promote development.
Winners are also eligible to compete under Japan Social Development Fund for a grant of up to US$ 200,000 for their work.
