China Center for Economic Research, Peking University Conference on Inequality, Growth and the Middle-Income Trap in China

Stockholm China Economic Research Institute, Stockholm School of Economics

Beijing, 1-2 July 2013

A conference on Inequality, Growth and the Middle-Income Trap in China will be held in Beijing on 1-2 July 2013 by the China Center for Economic Research at Peking University, jointly organized by the Stockholm China Economic Research Institute at Stockholm School of Economics.

More than three decades of high economic growth has transformed the Chinese economy. As China has quickly gone from being a low- to a middle-income country, it is facing new challenges which may, if not dealt with, result in a middle-income trap.

TOPICS: This conference will collect academic papers at both the micro and macro level with the aim of providing empirical evidence concerning challenges in terms of inequality, growth, the risk of a middle-income trap and potential policies to address them. Papers that relate to these issues are therefore especially welcome. Topics covered may thus include but are not limited to:
- Inequality
- Economic growth
- Middle-Income trap
- Inclusive growth
- Productivity
- Competitiveness
- Innovation
- Economic imbalances
- Economic and financial reforms
- Demographic change
- Private sector reform

There is no conference fee for accepted presenters. The conference organizers will provide accommodation in a hotel close to the conference site as well as lunch free of charge.

SPECIAL ISSUE: Papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Comparative Economics.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Please email a complete paper or a two-page abstract with details of methodology and data used in the empirical analysis to Dr. Xun Wang (xun.wang@hhs.se) by 1 March 2013 at the latest. Accepted papers will be notified within two weeks. If accepted, you are expected to submit the full paper no later than 1 May 2013.
