ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS


     18TH MITSUI FINANCE SYMPOSIUM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN


                      "GOVERNANCE AND MARKETS"

                           May 21-22, 2010



     We invite paper submissions on issues pertaining to:


     - Incentives for risk taking in firms and financial
       institutions
     - Impacts of markets on managerial behavior
     - Power structure within the firm
     - Executive compensation and contract
     - Governing through bankruptcy and restructuring
     - Stakeholders in governance - labor, suppliers, lenders,
       customers
     - Corporate democracy and dictatorship
     - Effectiveness of boards
     - Corporate control



     OVERVIEW:


     Each paper will be presented by the author and discussed by
     an assigned discussant. Active audience participation has
     been the norm at past symposiums and is encouraged again
     this year. To continue our tradition of interaction among
     participants, attendance is limited. Therefore, all
     invited participants are expected to stay during the entire
     conference, which begins with a reception on Thursday
     evening, May 20, and ends with lunch, Saturday, May 22,
     2010.



     AWARDS:


     Three awards will be given out in 2010:


     Best Paper ($5000) and two awards for Best Discussant
     ($2500 each). Awards are based on anonymous votes of the
     participants at the end of the final session.



     PAPER SUBMISSIONS PROCEDURE:


     Authors should electronically submit papers (MS Word or PDF
     format) by January 15, 2010. Each paper should contain an
     abstract and provide the author(s) full affiliation(s) and
     contact information. Authors of accepted papers will be
     notified by mid- to late March, 2010. Travel and
     accommodations will be paid for speakers and discussants.
