CALL FOR PAPERS: Young Researchers
International Wuppertal Colloquium on
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH, RESOURCE PRODUCTIVITY AND SUSTAINABLE
INDUSTRIAL POLICY - RECENT FINDINGS, NEW APPROACHES FOR
STRATEGIES AND POLICIES
held September 17 - 19, 2008
at Wuppertal University (Germany)
in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute
The international colloquium shall bring together top
experts on sustainable growth and sustainable resource
management. It aims to analyse the contribution of
increasing resource productivity to sustainability. Having
a focus on economics, the international colloquium shall
also cover the technological, the environmental and the
international dimensions. The number of participants and
presentations is strictly limited in order to facilitate
discussion.

Among international experts which already have confirmed
their participation for the present are:

- Dr. Arnold Tukker, TNO Built Environment and Geoscience,
Delft, NL
- Jennifer Li, Ph.D., Foundation for Environmental Security
and Sustainabilty, VA, USA
- Prof. Dr. Thomas Graedel, Yale University, USA
- ZhongXiang Zhang, Ph.D., East-West Center, HI, USA
- Professor Paul Ekins, Ph.D., Kings College London, UK
CONFERENCE DETAILS:
The international colloquium shall take place in 2008,
2009, and 2010. It accompanies a large research project on
"material efficiency and resource savings" which is
coordinated by the Wuppertal Institute with some 30
partners on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the
Environment. While the first international colloquium
intends to assemble the state of the art, the subsequent
colloquia in 2009 and 2010 shall also discuss technological
potentials and business opportunities as well as options
for a sustainable industrial policy. A publication is
intended.
PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Eligible are young researchers preferably from economics in
their Ph.D. or shortly thereafter (Post Doc). The deadline
for submission of the full paper as PDF-file is May 7. Only
papers in English are considered. Authors will be notified
about the decision on the acceptance of their paper in June
2008. An intership at the Wuppertal Institute
(http://www.wupperinst.org) or a visiting fellowship at the
European Institute for International Economic Relations at
Wuppertal University (EIIW, http://www.euroeiiw.de Prof.
Dr. Paul Welfens) in timely connection to the colloquium is
feasible.
