CALL FOR PAPERS

                         ECB-CFS CONFERENCE ON
                   HOUSEHOLD FINANCES AND CONSUMPTION

                          4 - 5 September 2008
                               Frankfurt


      The European Central Bank and the Center for Financial
      Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt are organizing a
      conference on Household Finances and Consumption. The
      objective of the conference is to present state-of-the-art
      empirical research and empirically motivated theoretical
      research on household asset accumulation, debt, and
      consumption behavior over the life cycle. The focus of the
      conference is on papers based on household-level, survey
      data without geographical limitation but with some
      preference for comparative analysis across countries.


      TOPICS:

      We actively solicit papers in the following areas, but
      other related areas may also be considered:

      - Household consumption, saving, and portfolio choice
      - Financing retirement and the demographic transition
      - Housing, mortgage markets, and financial markets
      - Household Finances and Monetary Policy
      - Consumer indebtedness and financial distress
      - Behavioral approaches to asset accumulation, debt
        behavior, and consumption
      - Financial literacy, financial sophistication, and
        professional advice
      - Subjective expectations, overconfidence, pessimism and
        portfolio choice
      - Social networks and trust

      The conference will include plenary talks by distinguished
      academics and central bankers. The academic talks will be
      given by Professors Orazio Attanasio (University College
      London) and Deborah Lucas (Northwestern).

      PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

      If you wish to submit a paper, please email an abstract and
      the paper, if available, as  separate pdf file to:

      The deadline for submitting papers is May 30, 2008.
      Inclusion in the Program will be confirmed by June 30,
      2008. Travel and local expenses of paper presenters will be
      covered. Only electronic submissions will be considered.

      Plenary talks on September 4 are open to financial
      practitioners, public servants, and to interested
      researchers who do not intend to register for the entire
      conference. If you wish to participate only in the plenary
      session, open to financial practitioners, interested
      researchers, and students, please send your reply form by
      August 1, 2008.The participation fee for plenary talks has
      been set to Euro 100. Academics, public servants, and students
      are exempted from this fee. Registration by August 1 is
      needed.
