Professor of Accounting
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a university with an
internationally acclaimed profile, located at the heart of
the Dutch capital. As well as a world centre for business
and research, Amsterdam is a hub of cultural and media
activities. The UvA is a member of the League of European
Research Universities.
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the
Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA) conducts international
research in the fields of Accounting, Finance, Management,
Corporate Governance, Economics, Econometrics and a variety
of related fields. It also provides academic courses in
these areas. The UvA Business School and the UvA School of
Economics form part of the FEB. In the accounting section
of the Business School the key research themes are
Governance, accountability and sustainability, Financial
accounting and capital markets and Management accounting.
The Amsterdam Business School's accounting section
currently has the following vacancy: Professor of
Accounting (Vacancy number 08-5042). This is a full-time
position. Applications are welcome from both internal and
external candidates Specialists in any field of accounting
are welcome to apply.
TASKS:
- Directs and executes research and teaching directly
related to the chair;
- Teaches in English, ability to teach also in Dutch would
be an advantage;
- Develops, executes or ensures execution of teaching
activities and evaluation of these;
- Develops a line of research, organises and ensures
organisation of research;
- Supervises PhD students;
- Acquires and develops research funding;
- Manages and/or participates in administrative duties
within the section, and the Faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD in Accounting or a closely related field;
- Publications in leading international accounting
journals;
- Evidence of international leadership in his/her research
field;
- Experience in the successful supervision of PhD students;
- Experience in designing and implementing new courses for
students;
- Wide teaching experience, interest in teaching, and
excellent teaching evaluations;
- Is capable of initiating and organising new research;
- Is experienced in supervising and motivating academic
research and capable of building a strong research group;
- Is part of a wide international network and has the
contacts necessary to initiate national and international
partnerships;
- Is experienced in obtaining research funding and willing
to continue this;
- Is experienced in teaching in English;
- Is result-oriented and is capable of working with others
to develop further the successful Accounting Section in
the ABS;
- Is experienced in successfully carrying out
administrative and management duties.

APPOINTMENT:
The initial appointment will normally be on a temporary
basis for a period of five years. Subject to satisfactory
performance, this will be followed by a permanent
appointment. In some cases an initial permanent position
may be offered. The salary will be on the scale for
professors at Dutch universities (maximum Euro 120,329 p.a.).
