Tenure track Assistant Professor in Accounting (vacancy number 213202)
The University of Groningen seeks to fill a tenure track position at the department of Accounting at the assistant professor level. Experienced assistant/associate professors will be considered for this position as well. The position is situated in the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. The research fits within the research program Innovation & Organization of the Faculty's SOM research school.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Accounting department, part of the Faculty of Economics and Business, contributes to several programs at the Bachelor's, Master's, Research Master's levels, to post-graduate programs and to the PhD program of the research school SOM. In the Bachelor programs of the Faculty of Economics and Business the department is responsible for courses in the fields of financial accounting and management accounting and control. On the Master level there are two accounting programs: the MSc BA Accountancy & Controlling (A&C) and the MSc BA Organizational & Management Control (O&MC). The department also runs the Post Master program Executive Master of Finance & Control. Furthermore, it is involved in the Post Master program Accountancy. Finally, the department participates in the 'Innovation & Organization' profile of the Research Master of the Faculty, aimed at students who aspire to pursue an academic career.
The department covers a variety of interests and backgrounds, and embraces a number of different research approaches and methods with a keen focus on quality in research and teaching. We focus on both applied and fundamental research questions. JOB DESCRIPTION: The assistant professor contributes to research and teaching in the department of Accounting. The applicant specializes in one or more of the following fields: management accounting and control, financial accounting and/or corporate governance. All candidates should demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- You have a PhD degree in a relevant field (business, economics, accounting, governance) or are expected to complete a PhD degree in a relevant field in the near future. Candidates with a PhD in a related field, such as finance or organizational economics, are also invited to apply
- A relevant publication record demonstrating the candidate's ability or potential to publish international academic publications, preferably in top tier peer-reviewed journals
- Capabilities in developing courses and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- A relevant international network
- A team player with good communication skills
- The ability to attract funding for research projects.
Tenure track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions and are subject to a tenure decision after a period of six years. Formal tenure track requirements include criteria with respect to research prominence, teaching and external fundraising activities. During the tenure track period 50% of the time is reserved for research and 50% is devoted to teaching activities. Moreover, you are willing to obtain the University Teaching Qualification within the first years of your contract.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For candidates at the assistant professor level, salary ranging from a minimum of € 3 227 (salary scale 11) gross per month to a maximum of € 5 020 (salary scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. You will be appointed for a period of six years, on the condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third year of employment. After a positive final evaluation in the sixth year of employment, you will be granted tenure.
We expect candidates to start between February 2014 and April 2014 if possible.
