Assistant Professor Position

The Accounting Department at the University of San Diego (USD) School of Business Administration invites applications for an Assistant Professor faculty position that begins either Spring 2014 or Fall 2014. Representatives will be available in Anaheim at the national American Accounting Association meeting in August.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position must possess a doctoral degree. Applicants should be able to teach financial accounting and/or tax in our growing MACC and MTAX programs. We are looking for balanced individuals who can provide high quality teaching, high quality scholarly research, and professional service.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salaries tend to be substantially below the national market at major state schools. However, USD offers an attractive package of benefits that includes medical, dental, disability insurance, same-sex domestic partner benefits, as well as a generous contribution to individual's defined contribution retirement plan.

TEACHING LOAD: New hires start with a teaching load of 2 sections per semester (4 per academic year). Senior faculty generally teach 3 sections per semester (6 per academic year).

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: USD is an independent private institution that retains its Roman Catholic identity. The University has over 5,000 undergraduate and approximately 1,800 graduate students. Spanish Renaissance architecture is the inspiration for buildings on the beautiful 180-acre hilltop campus.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION: The School of Business offers a bachelor's degree, assorted MBA degrees and masters' degrees in accountancy (MACC) and taxation (MTAX). The School holds AACSB business and separate accountancy program accreditations.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Accountancy, with approximately 200 graduates per year, is ranked among the top undergraduate accounting programs in the United States. USD is a target recruiting school for all of the large accounting firms and a number of major corporations. There are currently 13 full-time faculty members.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY: San Diego is a major city located on the Pacific Coast approximately 100 miles south of Los Angeles. San Diego has a temperate climate with highs averaging 65 degrees in December through February and 76 in August and September. On average, San Diego has only 41 days a year with measureable rainfall.
