Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Finance
The University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest university with over 40,000 students. The Business School's major teaching activities are a large undergraduate program and highly regarded MBA and research-based postgraduate Honours, Masters, and PhD programs. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the largest in the University, with more than 1,500 equivalent full-time students. There is a strong and growing postgraduate program, with approximately 20 PhD students. The Department is made up of three areas: Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, and Finance. It has about 40 full-time faculty comprising eight full professors, four associate professors, and a number of senior lecturers, lecturers, tutors, and professional teaching fellows.
The Department has a strong research orientation, with faculty publishing in highly rated international journals. Some faculty are on the editorial boards of international journals. The Department has a strong commitment to diversity and internationalisation, which is reflected in its faculty and student profiles, and a vibrant program for visitors, which includes many well recognized international academics. Faculty members are involved in joint research projects with other School faculty and with faculty at other universities. Recently, the Department was ranked 20th in the world in the QS Top Universities Ranking Survey for the subject discipline of accounting and finance, and it was the highest ranked accounting and finance department in New Zealand in the Performance Based Research Funding assessment.
The Department seeks to strengthen its position in the area of Finance. The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer positions in the Department and the School will carry with them responsibility for the further development and enhancement of research and teaching programs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS: The Senior Lecturer/Lecturer will be expected to provide strong academic leadership and administrative support. Specifically, this will include:
Teaching: Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required by the Head of Department; Supervise and assess student work; Develop and maintain a teaching portfolio that provides evidence of excellence in teaching.
Research: Initiate and undertake research in your area of expertise; Submit research-funding applications to appropriate bodies; Disseminate knowledge through scholarly research activities and publications; Participate in conferences to advance research interests; Supervise graduate students research; Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Administration: Foster the Department's relations with industry, professional bodies and the wider community; Undertake administration of courses; Participate in University/Department committees; Foster the Department's relations with industry, professional bodies and the wider community; Adhere to the rules and regulations of the University; Comply with the University's obligation regarding equal employment opportunities and the Treaty of Waitangi.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant PhD. Candidates who are close to completing their PhDs may be considered for a tenure-track Lecturer's position.
- Teaching experience and research experience is preferred and ability to undertake a program of research is essential.
- Plan, organise and administer your work; Facilitate student learning; Supervise and assess students work; Evaluate course content and delivery; Work collaboratively with colleagues; Undertake and publish research.
