Hanken School of Economics is a leading, internationally accredited (EQUIS, AMBA) university in the field of economics and business administration. The Department of Accounting and Comme at Hanken School of Economics invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Accounting in Helsinki for a fixed-term contract for 5 years.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The current faculty of 10 researchers at the subject Accounting conducts research of international standard with a high degree of societal relevance. On-going research focuses on international accounting issues, such as goodwill, earnings management, auditing and fraud, small company audit, management control and information systems. Publications during the last few years include journals such as European Accounting Review, The International Journal of Accounting, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Accounting and Business Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and Expert Systems with Applications.
All members of faculty are also highly involved in teaching at all levels, thus contributing to the development of analytical and responsible graduates.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The position as Assistant Professor includes the following requirements:
- Conducting research that meets high international standards, publishing your research in scholarly outlets and communicating the results of your work to the business community and society at large.
- Contributing to the research efforts and the development of new research capabilities of the department.
- Contributing successfully to the competence development of students by providing research-based teaching and supervision.
- Contributing to the development of the teaching capabilities of the department.
- Contributing to the administration of the department and the business school.
To fulfill the requirements for the position candidates should have completed a relevant PhD degree during the past five years (the period is extended in case of maternity/paternity leave). Candidates will be expected to have good knowledge of English and knowledge of Swedish is considered a merit.
When assessing and comparing the qualifications of the candidates for the position, research merits and potential are given precedence although teaching merits and interests are also relevant. The most qualified candidates may be invited to give two trial lectures, one about their own research (20 minutes) and one directed to students studying accounting (20 minutes). The language for the trial lectures is English.
SALARY: The monthly salary for the assistant professorship is negotiable depending on merits. The preferred starting date for the employment is early autumn 2013.
