City University of Hong Kong is a dynamic, fast developing

ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS:
The College of Business is proud to be one of the largest
business schools in Hong Kong with a total of about 190
faculty and teaching staff within its six academic
departments. All six departments are well known in the
business community for their professional standing and
academic reputation.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Accountancy has over 30 full-time faculty
and teaching staff. Our honorary research professor, namely
Professor Stephen Penman, the George O May Professor of
Accounting and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Research Scholar,
Columbia University, has been appointed for a period of two
years to augment our research profile. Our department
provides state-of-the-art accountancy education with a
professional emphasis.
Research is strongly and actively encouraged and we have
been successful in obtaining numerous competitive research
grants both within and outside the University. The
Department is further strengthening its PhD programme with
a focus on economic aspects of accounting, auditing and
corporate governance issues, with special interest in the
Mainland China and the Asia-Pacific region. Research
seminars with eminent professors from the top US
universities have been part of our regular activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:
The posts are tenable from January 2010/September 2010.
Most undergraduate classes are conducted in the day time,
with evening teaching for our taught postgraduate
programmes. There will also be some additional
undergraduate or postgraduate supervision of projects and
thesis.
Candidates for Associate Professor should possess a PhD
with relevant teaching experience, a solid publication
record in quality international journals and a dedication
to quality teaching. They are expected to provide
contribution/leadership in research, plan curriculum of
studies and supervise postgraduate students. Candidates
for Assistant Professor should possess a PhD or near its
completion.
SALARY/CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
The successful candidate will be offered appointment to an
academic rank commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Remuneration package will be very attractive,
driven by market competitiveness and individual

assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be
made on a fixed-term contract.
