The Department of Accounting and Management Control of HEC
Paris (France) invites applications for Tenure-track
faculty positions to begin September, 2010.
JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:
The position's openings are either in Financial Accounting
or in Management Accounting & Control. They are targeted at
the Assistant Professor level, but experienced candidates
at the Associate Professor level are also encouraged to
apply.
A strong track in both research and teaching is required.
Proficiency in French is not demanded, since research is
conducted in English and teaching can be completed entirely
in English. Some command of French is a plus.
Applicants must have a proven or a strong potential in top
quality research to be published in leading international
journals. Support for research is excellent, including
grants from HEC. During their first three years at HEC,
assistant professors benefit from a reduced number of
teaching hours, simplified access to research funds and an
exemption of administrative duties.
The remuneration and benefits package is competitive by
international standards and will be commensurate with
experience and profile.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND MANAGEMENT CONTROL:
The Department comprises 15 faculty members and several
adjunct faculty members both in the Financial Accounting
and Managerial Accounting areas. Each year, the Department
welcomes visiting professors from all over the world.
Research is currently carried out by faculty and doctoral
students in a wide range of areas and with various
methodological approaches, from positive accounting
research to social, organizational and critical approaches
to accounting. There is a strong team-spirit in the
department and research collaboration is given high
importance.
One position is open for teaching and research in Financial
Accounting. Faculty and doctoral students currently conduct
positive empirical research in areas such as International
Accounting, Earnings Management, Governance, Auditing,
Bankruptcy prediction, Goodwill and Intangibles. Some
sociological research in Accounting is also conducted.
Another position is open for teaching and research in
Management Accounting and Control. Research in the
department includes different topics, such as control
systems, performance management, the role of management
accountants, organizational learning, culture and sense-
making, and gender issues. The department has a strong
knowledge of, and interest in, the social and
organizational aspects of managerial accounting, but
behavioral and contingency approaches are also welcome.
