      Risk and Accounting is the subject of the 3rd European Risk   
      Conference to be held in London and we are delighted to
      announce that it is being jointly hosted by Deloitte and
      the Chartered institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

      On September 2nd CIMA will host the doctoral colloquium
      that marks the start of the conference. For September 3rd
      & 4th the venue will move to Deloitte's training centre at
      2 New Street Square, London. In focusing on risk and
      accounting, the conference will provide a platform for both
      academics and practitioners to debate highly topical issues
      which are subjects of concern for governments as well as
      financial and accounting regulators around the world.

      The afternoon of September 3rd will be devoted to a
      business risk forum addressed by leading international
      speakers from the risk and accounting profession. The call
      for papers for the doctoral colloquium and the main ERRN

      TOPICS:

      Papers are invited on all risk related topics including:

      - Risk and financial accounting
      - Internal and external reporting of risk
      - Risk modelling and measurement
      - Risk and performance measurement
      - Fraud
      - The credit crunch
      - Valuation and audit of illiquid financial instruments
      - The incorporation of risk into accounting measures
      - Internal and external audit
      - Environmental risk
      - Supply chain risk
      - Regulation of risk


      DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM:

      The European Risk Research Network (ERRN) doctoral
      colloquium will be held on September 2nd 2009 at the
      headquarters of CIMA in London, and marks the first day of
      the ERRN conference on Risk and Accounting.

      The colloquium and conference are sponsored under the Marie
      Curie funding programme which aims at encouraging new
      researchers and providing help with their professional and
      academic development. The colloquium enables PhD students
      from across Europe to present their research, get detailed
      and expert feedback on their work, and to nurture a network
      of young scholars working in the fields of risk management
      and internal control systems. Participants are expected to
      join the main ERRN conference which takes place over the
      following two days (September 3rd-4th).

      The colloquium will begin with an address from a leading
      journal editor who will discuss the details of the
      publications process and offer advice and ideas on pitfalls
      to avoid. Experienced academics in the audience will also
      share their experience of the publication process in
      refereed international journals.

      The remainder of the afternoon is devoted to a series of
      presentations by PhD students of their research. Each
      presenter will be allocated a professor or established
      researcher who will provide detailed verbal and written
      feedback on the research programme and presentation.


      FUNDING:

      A total of 28 funded places for PhD students are available.
      Funding covers conference registration, accommodation,
      subsistence and travel costs. Further details of funding

      Funding is restricted to students from within the European
      Union or EU associate nations.


      PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

      PhD students wishing to apply for one of the funded places
      should submit full papers based on their doctoral research
      to:

      by May 15th, 2009 (extension to May 31, 2009 available on
      request). All applicants for funded places are also
      required to submit an accompanying summary CV giving
      details of their PhD registration and their supervisor's
      name and contact details.

      Notification of acceptance will be confirmed by June 15th,
      2009. Please note that participation in the Doctoral
      Colloquium and application for a funded place is also
      possible without presenting a paper, provided that the
      applicant provides evidence of involvement in relevant
      research.


      MAIN CONFERENCE/CALL FOR PAPERS:

      The 3rd European Risk Conference on "Risk and Accounting"
      will be held on September 3rd & 4th, 2009 at Deloitte's
      training centre in the heart of the City of London.
      Academics and practitioners are invited to submit paper to
      be presented in parallel sessions on topics relating to
      risk management, internal control and corporate governance.


      FUNDING:

      42 funded places are available for participants who meet

      PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

      Applicants are required to submit an extended abstract (500
      words) or a full paper to:

      request). Authors will be notified of acceptance by June
      15th, 2009.

      Applicants for funded places are also required to submit an
      accompanying summary CV which includes details of
      affiliation, place of work and length of research/academic
      experience.


      FURTHER INFORMATION:

      All presenters will be allocated a discussant who will
      provide the author(s) with written feedback in addition to
      leading the discussion of the paper following the
      presentation. Presenters may be asked by the scientific
      committee to act as a discussant for a related conference
      paper.

      A prize will be awarded for the best conference paper.
      Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit their
      work for consideration for publication in a research book
      to be published by Elsevier/CIMA Publishing.
