CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPANTS
HKUST SUMMER SYMPOSIUM ON FAMILY BUSINESS RESEARCH
June 16-17, 2008
The Center for Asian Family Business Studies and the Center
for Asian Financial Markets at the Hong Kong University of
Science and Technology (HKUST) are co-organizing a
symposium on Family Business Research. Family ownership
controls a substantial portion of the corporate sector in
many countries and is recognized as the most pervasive form
of corporate organization in the world, especially in Asia.
The goal of this Summer Symposium is to bring together
scholars from different disciples who share a common
interest in family business research. We welcome economics-
based research papers on family business in accounting,
economics, finance, management, and other fields of social
science.
PAPER DETAILS:
Papers should be well developed, but at a stage where they
can still benefit from the group's discussion. The
symposium will include no more than ten papers. We will
provide a travel subsidy of US$2,200 per paper and
accommodations for up to three nights to overseas
presenters.
PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
To be considered for presentation at the Symposium, please
submit an electronic copy and one-page abstract, preferably
in MS Word or PDF format, with your registration form by
February 29, 2008. The form can be downloaded from:
http://www.bm.ust.hk/research/#1
Accepted papers will be made available on the Symposium
website but they will not be published in conference
proceedings and thus remain eligible for journal
submission.
Note: Presentation of a paper is not required for
participating in the Symposium.
PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION:
To register as a participant, simply complete the
registration form (MS Word or PDF) and e-mail or fax it by
February 29, 2008. Late registration for participation will
be considered until all seats are filled.
The registration fee for the Symposium is US$200, which
includes the welcoming reception, two luncheons and the
closing banquet. Please do not send fees with your
application.
Successful applicants will be notified and will receive
billing forms by March 31, 2008. Registration fees are due
from participants by April 30, 2008 and are non-refundable
unless withdrawal requests are received by May 31, 2008. As
the Symposium is limited to 50 participants to promote
close interaction, late payment may result in loss of
registration.
